Sleep with the light on
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, Lee Mountford goes and does it again. Mountford knows exactly how to build an atmosphere of terror, so much so I am pretty sure I am now terrified of woodlands and I certainly slept with the lights on.

Although this is not the first of the books I have consumed by this author, he certainly had me captivated by Forest of the Damned, and I most certainly did not see that ending coming.

Forest of the Damned is a must read, for those that enjoy the horror genre. It is a well written page turner, that I was unable to put down. From the creepy forest setting, the choice of characters some of which I was glad to see the demise of and the intense shock factor. I would definitely recommend.

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and Penguin Books for review purposes

I love Richard Osman so I so wanted to love this book but truthfully, I struggled! I'm going to chock it up to the fact that I'm just not a mystery reader so that aspect didn't even keep me hooked. I guess this cosy mystery was just too cosy that I ended up drifting off to sleep more than once and if this wasn't an arc I would have seriously considered DNF-ing which I really didn't want to say! It picked up pace a lot by the halfway mark though and I actually found myself actually invested in the story and I did enjoy all the twists and turns that occurred and finding out just why everyone did what they did but I just didn't love it unfortunately!

I was really liking this--it would have got 5 stars!--if not for the whole progression of the relationships with the guys. That sounds like I think it was a bad thing but it seemed rather unfair in my opinion that she didn't sleep with them all. But then that sounds bad to me, too.

It's a little complicated and maybe I'm biased because yeah, five hot guys, but only two have had the right connection/shown enough guilt over what they've done previously for me to want Marnye to get with them and that's the two Z's; Zach and Zayd.

I have no idea how she's going to pick which of these guys she wants. Tristan, I think, is still interested in Lizzie. Creed is trying his hardest to be worthy. Windsor (love the take on the name) is a hard one to figure out.

"OK look, I have only seen this film once and I will never watch it again. But the effect it had on me was so profound that it kind of shifted things creatively inside me. I went to the cinema one night in London with two very good friends when I was 24. It blew me away. It’s so raw and so poetic at the same time. Emily Watson was sublime. I came out of the theater in a daze and the three of us wandered around the streets of Soho for hours not quite knowing what to do with ourselves. I literally didn’t sleep all night. I just lay there in my hotel room reliving the story. Even now I can see the bleak color palette, the camera moves, and Emily’s naive face. Lars Von Trier is a genius. Every film he makes is so honest and powerful."

"I was in film school when I first saw this film. I didn't understand it. Or, more specifically, I watched it and then couldn't grasp what had happened in any linear sense. I had conversations with film school friends about it, but I just couldn't really remember anything except a girl-on-girl love scene and an audition. I watched it twenty-two times this way, not really remembering. Then one night, on an MDMA comedown, I couldn't sleep and it was 8:00 a.m. and the movie was coming on. And suddenly I was able to process every second. It's interesting, because a fever dream is a hard thing to grasp, and I like Lynch's films because they induce these dreams. That morning I was living a fever dream, so the film was suddenly apparent. And it's such a complete portrait of the agony of Hollywood."
