A friend recommended this and when I finally ordered it I was quite apprehensive. The genre is not my usual bag and I often struggle taking in lots of historical information.
However, the writing flows very well and feels not too dissimilar to a story. I like that there are references in the book with small links to them so you know it is truthful. So much work has gone into this and you know that Hallie Rubenhold really has a passion for this subject.
The stories are so sad, I think the author does a good job of remaining objective other than the last chapter. It really brings out the victims stories and changes the narrative of the story behind them.
At points there are a lot of characters and names to keep hold off. Sometimes the new characters are just introduced and I was left thinking "who" until a few pages later.

The final kiss... (hopefully)
So I ga e this a watch as I'd already seen the first two, it's not often that a threequel is as bad as its predecessors yet even with a large shift in its own continuitie, this was still worse.
Continuing With its usual obvious opening, it gradually ops to changing to an inevitable break up between the main two characters and somewhat focuses on an will they or won't the scenario that quickly becomes bland.
Although the change was a smart one it still seemed to drag its story and with a rocky but acceptable ending.
Standard Netflix teen rom-com, watch with this warning.

I read the Nancy Drew books when I was a kid and loved them, so I was pretty interested in checking out the show. I am really enjoying it so far. The characters are interesting each with their own strengths and skills that they bring to the group. Nancy herself is very smart, but I like that she's also not perfect. She makes mistakes and her friends aren't afraid to call her out on it and eventually she does own up to it and tries to make it right. It makes her feel like a fully developed character. The main mystery is great with a few extra side mysteries thrown in. I am enjoying the spooky ghost story elements to it too and there have been a couple episodes where the show scared me with it. Sometimes the pacing feels a little slow with the writing and it can feel very drawn out at times, but it doesn't detract too much from how good the show is. The cast is really good and they bring the characters to life. I'm enjoying it and always looking forward to the next episode to see where the story goes.

This book totally stressed me out. I usually love a good boarding school novel (though technically these students are in their college years), but this was mostly just a bunch of kids drinking and occasionally attending weird classes. Why are there never normal people at these schools who just do their work and don't drink?
Anyway, besides that pet peeve, this book was incredibly slow and nothing ever happened. This was mostly a story about a lot of frivolous kids at school with some weird scientific plasma stuff thrown in. It was incredibly difficult to care about Ines for most of the book--or any of the other characters--and truly, most of the plot. I thought about abandoning the book, but wanted to see if anything interesting ever happened with the scientific aspect. (No, not really.) The book sells itself as a mysterious ride, but it's more a character-driven novel. About lackluster, annoying characters.
Now the last third was fairly enjoyable and somehow an irritating book with eh characters had a satisfying ending, but getting there was just painful. Thomas is a good writer and this is no doubt one of those smart books where not much happens that book critics will worship, but it didn't really work for me. 2.5 stars.

The first book set up the idea of the different Londons: magic-less grey London, vibrant red London, starving and desperate white London, and decimated, dead black London. Each built upon a foundation of London but developed in completely different fashions. Their cultures, religion, speech, manner and being is so unique in each world.
It was a really intriguing way to build the world and immediately fascinated me. Good world building is so important to books because it is immersive, it pulls you in and makes you forget that its not real. You are living the story with the characters. She even created languages that were utilized by characters from different places, from the magic language of the Antari to the flowing words or harsh tones of the neighboring lands. It shows a passion for authenticity and true love of what she has created.
I love the characters. Rhy with his charm always brightens the room (or a scene). Lila is cunning, ruthless, ambitious and a thief. She doesn't need anyone and she would never admit to needing anything. She takes or does what she wants, no matter the cost with no regrets. She is tough as nails and her grit is inspiring. Her first instinct is to protect herself above all.
Many people may not agree with me, but Lila was probably my least favourite of our main characters. She was smart and tough, but a little too ruthless for my taste. Kell was the character that I liked/related to the most, even though he was a powerful magic user he seemed the most down to earth.
Not only does she introduce us to unique main characters, but she brilliantly gives depths to those in the background. There are some supporting characters that at times I liked even more than some of our leads.
Overall the story is more of a slow-burn/build rather than quick action packed scenes. I think that it worked really well for this story and have no complaints. Highly recommended to young adult/teen readers who enjoy fantasy or magic books with characters that have very diverse personalities/outlooks on life and great world-building.

This was an adorably sweet story. I love good vs evil and I love angels so this was a plus on so many levels. I was happy with the characters and I was sad with them. The writing made me feel with them and made me feel as if I was in the story with them. I love when a writer yanks me into the story so I am part of it with the characters. Damascus was awesome but I will admit... his brother was hotter ;) I know he wasn't the "good" one but what can I say... I love a good bad boy. Amelia was very strong and smart. She was pretty and sassy and I loved her character. I loved who she was and how she loved. I was glad that it wasn't just a "wam bam we love each other no issues" type story. They had issues, they had happiness and sadness, and it wasn't easy. It was a very good story and I would recommend it to my YA loving friends for sure.

An excellent continuation to the saga. So far it is proving to be quite an experience to follow the lives of all these characters as they journey through Westeros, both shaping the country's history and having their histories shaped by the events raging around them. Despite containing an increasingly large amount of fantasy elements it's hard not to find the story anything but believable and one can't help but be pulled into the tales of even the most contemptible characters, and believe me there are quite a few that are very worthy of contempt. Perhaps most important of all though, is the very real feeling that at no point does one ever really know exactly where any one of these paths is leading the person or people involved. Thanks to Martin's deft plotting and smart twists, no one's fate ever feels secure, which only adds to the story's momentum. This is completely worthy of all the praise that has been heaped upon the series and serves to leave one very hungry for the next installment.
