VERY GOOD SECRET SOCIETY/CULT MYSTERY (0 more)
RIVETING
Thank you to net gallery for the ARC.

Ancestral was a good book that moved nicely; at first I was not sure about it as I had not read the first one. I love a good cult story and its concept was unique. The characters were well developed and I found myself rooting for them all along the way. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and look forward to reading the next installment. I am also going to go back and read the first one as well. You can read this one without doing that but you may find yourself lost sometimes in the story due to that but it does not deter from this one.

Rhage and Mary's story!!
Rhage is different from the other brothers, also known as "Hollywood" for his good looks, but his interest is mostly in killing members of the Lessening Society and being with his brothers.
JR Ward has a way of making you fall in love with each character (one at a time) and feeling a part of their story as it develops. Yes this could be considered a romance to some extent but that isn't what this really is in my opinion. The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is a highly addictive series of books with Vampires, action, enemies and the love interest although engaging is a side line to the main story. If you enjoy Vampire books then these are a must read!

Compelling heroin drama
According to IMDb, Al Pacino's performance in this film (his first leading role) was what Coppola used to show Paramount executives that he portray Michael Corleone in The Godfather.

Pacino and Kitty Wynn (Sharon in The Exorcist) play a lovestruck couple who are not very good for each other. Their drug addictions and other bad habits play off each other and keep the couple on a downward spiral burrowing into the drudges of society.

The performances are what make the film worth watching. Certainly makes you not want to do drugs. Some of the sequences reminded me a lot of Requiem For a Dream (my fave film of all time).

Well worth a watch.

Equilibrium (2002)
Equilibrium (2002)
2002 | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
Hugely derivative sci-fi action plodder. In a future world where all emotion has been outlawed and society has been retooled to include as many genre cliches as possible, Christian Bale is a fiercely calm enforcer of the general state of drugged-up indifference. Needless to say he begins to doubt the system.

Well, some bits are knocked off from Logan's Run, some from 1984, some from THX-1138, and most obviously of all there are some hugely blatant steals from The Matrix. Not one of Bale's finest performances. The film has a certain visual style to it, but the lack of originality, mixed with a good deal of silliness, bathos, and pretension, means it isn't even particularly enjoyable as a fun dumb action film.

I love love love this book. The story follows a writer in the aftermath of war torn London. She needs inspiration for her latest article or novel when the answer lands on her doorstep in the shape of a letter from Guernsey. She follows the tale of their literary society and how it got them through the war. The only question is why hasn't Elizabeth come home.

What an amazing story and really highlights the horrible life people had to live through during the occupation. Rightfully this was made into a film which is still good but when you read the book your find out so much more about the characters and their lives.

A must read for anyone who likes history.
