Banned Coming of Age Story
I love being a rebel and reading books that have been banned before. This book showed a lesbian relationship in a positive light which is what earned it the ban.
Nancy Garden did a magnificent job of capturing the angst of first love. This in itself can be hard but add to the mix it being love that is scorned by society and you have a new level of coming of age story. This book was originally published in 1992 which can be picked up from some of the descriptions, none the less, the basis of the story is still relevant today. This story will make you cheer, cry, and want to hit someone with anger. It is a fantastic book.

This was the second time I have read [Soft Apocalypse] by [Will McIntosh]. It was as good the second time. Now I usually do not read books twice because there are way too many books I want to read but since this is set in Savannah where I moved in July I figured I would read it again.
The idea that society collapses due to economics is not too far fetched. The eco terrorism may be a little harder to buy but still well within the realm of possibility. The message that as human we have good and bad but really never give up is a prevalent theme in this story. I recommend it to anyone looking for a thought provoking read.

Gripping, horrific look at victim blaming of women
There are so many twists that your head will keep spinning. However, each one has been laid out carefully so it doesn't seem frivolous. The story plot is coherent and the author has done a great job of keeping it together without going completely over the top Hollywood style.
It's a rather sad look at how much victim blaming there is in society especially surrounding violence against women. The woman in this case is Beth, a troubled young girl, and you wonder if she's telling the truth even right near the end. She's portrayed as slightly psychotic while the defendant is "good young boy with a solid reputation ". An important read and completely relevant our times.

Great premise for a zombie series, the usual man-made virus trope dusted off again, but this time thee action happens quite some time after the breakout and society is fairly stable and safe now. Or at least it would be if those ruddy journalists (the protagonists) didn't go poking sticks where they shouldn't.
This is something of a zombie version of Hunter S Thompson's campaign trail with the hired journalists documenting a presidential candidate's campaign trail, with various implausible (staged) accidents.
The action rolls along well, the characters are a little irritating and some of the dialogue really got on my nerves.
Overall an enjoyable read with something of a message to it, and I did carry on with the series.

Fire From The Gods Punch Back In A Dying Genre
While vocalist AJ Channer has a steady flow in his Jamaican-style rapping, his growls and screaming still need a little practice. However, guitarists Jameson Teat and Drew Walker match his vocals and the heaviness he's trying to portray. They may not be at the levels of their producer just yet, but they're not a long way from that. Lyric subjects range from racial discrimination to following an unfit society, which line up to today's current events and issues. Recommended for fans of Sevendust and Skindred who want something new.
Our future society? Made up of 5 factions that you must be a part of or you'll be part of the unwanted factionless. At 15, Beatrice, later known as Tris, has to decide between her parents faction or something different, something more. Belonging part of the selfless faction just isnt quite what she's all about. How will she adjust to this new and exciting faction where being proud, strong and brave is what its all about? Including learning how to fight and defend. Not only that but there's more to all the societies, a secret, a secret that Tris is part of and not in a way that people want to see her stay alive. I can't wait to read Insurgent!

Captain Marvel wasn't the best Marvel movie to date, but was one of the better ones. Brie Larson was fantastic as Carol Danvers. She very well portrayed a woman who was told to suppress her emotions her entire life to fit within a patriarchal society. The big twist being that she didn't have to prove anything to the men in her life to be the strong powerful woman that she is. Probably does more for representation of women than WonderWoman. The Skrull also teach us that we cannot demonize sentients before understanding them. Excelltent! 9/10

RIVETING

Ancestral was a good book that moved nicely; at first I was not sure about it as I had not read the first one. I love a good cult story and its concept was unique. The characters were well developed and I found myself rooting for them all along the way. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and look forward to reading the next installment. I am also going to go back and read the first one as well. You can read this one without doing that but you may find yourself lost sometimes in the story due to that but it does not deter from this one.

Rhage and Mary's story!!
Rhage is different from the other brothers, also known as "Hollywood" for his good looks, but his interest is mostly in killing members of the Lessening Society and being with his brothers.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is a highly addictive series of books with Vampires, action, enemies and the love interest although engaging is a side line to the main story. If you enjoy Vampire books then these are a must read!

Compelling heroin drama
According to IMDb, Al Pacino's performance in this film (his first leading role) was what Coppola used to show Paramount executives that he portray Michael Corleone in The Godfather.
Pacino and Kitty Wynn (Sharon in The Exorcist) play a lovestruck couple who are not very good for each other. Their drug addictions and other bad habits play off each other and keep the couple on a downward spiral burrowing into the drudges of society.
The performances are what make the film worth watching. Certainly makes you not want to do drugs. Some of the sequences reminded me a lot of Requiem For a Dream (my fave film of all time).
Well worth a watch.
