Lumos (380 KP) rated Smash Up in Tabletop Games
Mar 18, 2018
I really enjoy the playability of this game. No two games are the same. I do, sometimes, feel as if it takes too long to understand how your two decks work together but that all comes with playing more. Some decks are clearly more powerful than others (especially when paired with certain other decks) and that can be a bit of a downer if your decks aren't combo-ing and other people are completely destroying you. We have tried to eliminate this by having each player pick a deck that is "out of bounds" or not to be played that game. This keeps players from always picking two decks they know combo well and keeps the game fun for everyone.

This is probably the last book I am reading this year, unless I finish another one till midnight. It's a book of choice and not a simple one. It is a choice between life and death, between suffering and peace. It really touched me and it opened my mind.. I thought about all the possibilities in my life and all the bad things that could happen to me. How would I react and what will be my final decision. This is a book that I will never forget and will always keep rereading it again and again, reminding myself that destiny can be cruel sometimes. I recommend it to all people with an open mind, because this book is worth it !

We have always wondered, Neil tells us the answer.
I love a good epic book, I love a good story which has the various Gods in. Neil Gaiman gives us Godsand Godesses from all different cultures, they are friends and enemies, and they are not doing much now.
What a fantastic idea, Gaiman pulls it off superbly. His weird style of writing is a great fit to follow the journey of Shadow and Wednesday. It's a journey well worth telling and well worth reading.
Gaiman is not everyone's cup of tea, even if he is not yours you will enjoy this. If he is yours, why have you not read it yet?

RIVETING
Thank you to net gallery for the ARC.
Ancestral was a good book that moved nicely; at first I was not sure about it as I had not read the first one. I love a good cult story and its concept was unique. The characters were well developed and I found myself rooting for them all along the way. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and look forward to reading the next installment. I am also going to go back and read the first one as well. You can read this one without doing that but you may find yourself lost sometimes in the story due to that but it does not deter from this one.

David McK (3562 KP) rated Earth Unaware (The First Formic War, #1) in Books

A prequel to Orson Scott Card's classic [b:Ender's Game|8782597|Ender's Game|Frederic P. Miller|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348614228s/8782597.jpg|11571577], with the events of this taking place before Ender is even born.
This thus takes the opportunity to flesh out the background to that novel, filling in the gaps of what had previously happened, in particular how the First Formic War had come about. It was also, I believer, written alongside a comic-book series, which might explain the sometimes fractured nature of the narrative!
While not the best 'new' (to me) sci-fi book I've read, this is also not he worst: I also have to say that, picking it up for only £1 in a local Bargain books I can't really complain!

Great story overall but pacing issues
This was a great story affected by some pacing issues in my opinion, thus the rating which might surprise some people. Overall, I feel good about the storyline, the character development and the gut-punching emotions. I do think it could have been a little shorter and more dynamically paced. I wasn’t sure if I was going to settle into Tudor England, it took some time but I did settle.
Matthew and Diana’s relationship dynamic was rather different in past times, I found it inevitable, interesting and sometimes annoying. I loved the band of waifs and strays that became part of their family.
Great narration and I’m already lamenting that Times Convert won’t have Ikeda.

Cool concept

I really enjoy monster movies. Not getting to actually SEE the monsters makes for an interesting story. Netflix did a good job with this one. Sandra Bullock delivers another great performance(I'm biased-lol). Anyway the acting was really well done and the cinematography was, too. People keep complaining about the ending but I thought it turned out really interesting. No closure to the monsters or any real explanation of what they were, but it showed that there was hope. Sometimes that's all we have to hold onto. Sure, I would've liked to have seen Tom survive with them, but that would have changed the dynamic of the story and Mallory's driving force. All in all I'd say this one is really worth a watch!

Beginners guide to philosophical problems
This was required reading for my first philosophy class, as a complete beginner it is a great introduction to the problems within philosophy. Most essays easy to read and understand. This isn't just for people studying philosophy, it's for anyone questioning any preconceptions or beliefs they have, this helps you break them down and think logically about them, sometimes you change your mind and something's you find valid reasons for your beliefs and they are reinforced.
Philosophy is a great place to start if you find your life is at a cross roads or you are questioning g things in your life.
