A prequel to Orson Scott Card's classic [b:Ender's Game|8782597|Ender's Game|Frederic P. Miller|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348614228s/8782597.jpg|11571577], with the events of this taking place before Ender is even born.

This thus takes the opportunity to flesh out the background to that novel, filling in the gaps of what had previously happened, in particular how the First Formic War had come about. It was also, I believer, written alongside a comic-book series, which might explain the sometimes fractured nature of the narrative!

While not the best 'new' (to me) sci-fi book I've read, this is also not he worst: I also have to say that, picking it up for only £1 in a local Bargain books I can't really complain!

Great story overall but pacing issues
This was a great story affected by some pacing issues in my opinion, thus the rating which might surprise some people. Overall, I feel good about the storyline, the character development and the gut-punching emotions. I do think it could have been a little shorter and more dynamically paced. I wasn’t sure if I was going to settle into Tudor England, it took some time but I did settle.

Matthew and Diana’s relationship dynamic was rather different in past times, I found it inevitable, interesting and sometimes annoying. I loved the band of waifs and strays that became part of their family.

Great narration and I’m already lamenting that Times Convert won’t have Ikeda.

Cool concept

I really enjoy monster movies. Not getting to actually SEE the monsters makes for an interesting story. Netflix did a good job with this one. Sandra Bullock delivers another great performance(I'm biased-lol). Anyway the acting was really well done and the cinematography was, too. People keep complaining about the ending but I thought it turned out really interesting. No closure to the monsters or any real explanation of what they were, but it showed that there was hope. Sometimes that's all we have to hold onto. Sure, I would've liked to have seen Tom survive with them, but that would have changed the dynamic of the story and Mallory's driving force. All in all I'd say this one is really worth a watch!

Beginners guide to philosophical problems
This was required reading for my first philosophy class, as a complete beginner it is a great introduction to the problems within philosophy. Most essays easy to read and understand. This isn't just for people studying philosophy, it's for anyone questioning any preconceptions or beliefs they have, this helps you break them down and think logically about them, sometimes you change your mind and something's you find valid reasons for your beliefs and they are reinforced.
Philosophy is a great place to start if you find your life is at a cross roads or you are questioning g things in your life.
