"Full disclosure: Amy is a friend, and I have tasted her cupcakes. They’re really, really good. (And that is not a euphemism.) I Like You is a spin on those 1960s cookbooks about how to make a nice home and how to entertain. I picked it because I love the character Amy plays: a hostess from the ’60s, in cheap hosiery, wigs, and crazy costumes. But it’s also got recipes for a delicious meatloaf and advice on how to deal with drunk guests. My favorite tip is that when you’re having a party, you should fill your medicine cabinet with marbles—so that when people are snooping, they get caught. I know that Amy really does like to entertain that way. Sometimes she’ll charge people 25 cents to take a picture with a stuffed rabbit. The book is hilarious, beautifully designed, and captures Amy in so many ways"

"As a child, I wanted to grow up to be a professional cartoonist, and when I was about twelve or thirteen my father (right around the time he showed me The Rocky Horror Picture Show) handed me a Washington Post article about Robert Crumb and said, “Here, you might be interested in this.” And boy, was he right! Like finding out that the Cramps and Meet the Feebles existed, this was revelatory. I didn’t know you were allowed to make art like this. (And of course, in Crumb’s case, sometimes you’re not.) Zwigoff’s portrait-of-the-artist-as-nihilistic-misanthrope is one of the all-time great docs about creativity and the toll it can take (see Burden of Dreams for another one!), and on top of that, it’s caustically funny and soul-crushingly humane. Where have you gone, Terry Zwigoff? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you."

I think I can safely say that this book has been a hit with my children, the four year old has asked to be read it three times in a row, the six year old is now reading it for a fourth time, and both have demanded to know what Sparky does next.

Sparky is a cute purple dinosaur, learning some valuable lessons on not giving up when something is difficult, but also that sometimes the best thing to do to learn a new or difficult skill is to just have some fun. It's a lovely message for little ones, especially early in their schooling.

I've especially appreciated being able to use it as a conversation starter with the 6 year old who has some speech issues, and finds it a struggle not being quite like the other children in the class.

I would highly recommend this book.

I love the selection of old & new TV/films & the option to stream disney channel live. The music selection is good & I love that the new soundtracks appear quickly. (0 more)
The option to make a playlist would be so useful. Also sometimes things are a little clunky & don't work as smoothly as other apps. Some films/TV shows take a while to appear on there after release. (0 more)
This app is life!
It's a great app & I love the easy access to all things Disney! As a huge fan of the films, tv & music there is so much to get my teeth into & I love rewatching old favourites. There are a few gaps- things that haven't appeared on there yet, but I'm hoping they'll keep adding to the old library of 90s cartoons! I just wish that new film/TV was more up to date with the releases on other mediums.

One of my go to board games
This game is one of my number one board games. It has such variety, in that it has many different scenarios that can trigger in one game. It is so entertaining exploring the house, despite it sometimes not fitting on the table. Waiting to find out who is going to end up as the traitor makes for some hilarious conversations during play.
It varies on how long it takes to play, but in general it doesn't drag on too long.
I do have a problem where, probably due to luck, the haunt is easy to complete and ends the game brusquely. Or it ends up the other way where it seems to take a really long time to complete anything and win.
But overall, great game, very fun and easy to play and can't wait for another game night.

More factually-oriented reimagining of Carry On Girls. As preparations for Miss World 1970 gather pace in London, the contestants get to know each other and consider their different backgrounds, while a group of feminist activists prepare to make a protest and sabotage the show.

The behind-the-scenes at the actual show is fascinating, occasionally thoughtful, and does a good job of showing just what an absurd and unpleasant anachronism Miss World was, even fifty years ago, all without labouring the issue. Unfortunately, all the scenes with the protestors are clompingly nuance-free and simplistic (NB I am not of the target demographic for this movie, probably; your mileage may vary). Nevertheless, a very fine performance from Gugu Mbatha-Raw, an enjoyable comic turn from Rhys Ifans, and at least the glimmerings of recognition that things aren't quite as one-sided as they sometimes seem keep it watchable.

I'm always interested in historical movies, which is what drew me to this film in the first place. In addition to the fact that it stars Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman in arguably some of the best performance for either.

All the President's Men has been listed as one of the most historically accurate films ever made. It explains, from the young reporters point of view, the discovery of exactly what took place at the Watergate that caused the downfall of a president.

While the movie was sometimes slow, as it was data filled, I never found myself bored or wishing it would get along. Everything that happened during the slow periods were very relevant and needed in order to tell the story.

A wonderful representation of what historical drama should and can be, I highly recommend anyone with even a slight interest in American history to give this a watch.
