Mothergamer (1613 KP) rated Chapelwaite in TV
Sep 30, 2021
It's not a bad show, but it definitely could be better. It's based on the short story by Stephen King from his Night Shift anthology setting up a prequel to Salem's Lot. The premise is good, but the execution is lacking. It's meant to be a horror show, but sometimes it feels very dull with one or two jump scares. It takes far too long to get to the point and reveal with what is going on in the town and with Charles and his family. The cast is uneven too. Adrien Brody does a great job and some of the other cast are great too, but then you have some of the cast that don't deliver lines well, in a stilted robotic manner. If you're going to do a horror show, then do a horror show that is actually scary rather than boring and hardly any horror.
Mothergamer (1613 KP) rated Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in TV
Nov 9, 2021
I do like the comics of Sabrina and I remember liking the more lighthearted TV show. This is a little darker which is not a bad thing. The first season takes a little bit to get going, but once it does it's pretty good. Some episodes are stronger than others and sometimes it feels like Sabrina is very one note doing things without thinking about consequences. Richard Coyle does a fantastic job playing Faustus Blackwood. The cast itself is really good. There are definitely issues for me with how Pagans, Wiccans, and Satanists are portrayed. It comes across as very ignorant because it's not accurate at all. There are some things they do get right like the Hare Moon, but there are a lot of things that are incorrect. The final season seems to be mixed because the ending seems a bit abrupt, but overall it's not a bad show.
LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021) in Movies
Mar 4, 2022
This movie opens with a "previously on" montage, kind of like a CW show, so that's what we're dealing with here.
The first Escape Room is a relatively tight thriller, with multiple entertaining-as-hell set pieces, all wrapped up in a load of half-baked plot weirdness. This sequel doubles down on both of those things. The puzzle rooms themselves are more extravagant and ambitious, and sometimes, there's some tension on display. I just wish they would lean into the horror more and get gory!
However, the small semblance of plot is needlessly convoluted, and executed so poorly, that it doesn't make much sense, and it just doesn't matter. I wasn't annoyed that it was bullshit, because I just didn't care, as my brain cells slowly fizzled away.
Tournament of Champions is dumb and fun. Pretty forgettable, but a good enough time whilst it's happening.

The Monarch of the Glen ( American Gods 1.5 )
By Neil Gaiman
He was not sure what he had been looking for. He only knew that he had not found it.
Shadow Moon has been away from America for nearly two years. His nights are broken with dangerous dreams. Sometimes he almost believes he doesn't care if he ever returns home.
In the Highlands of Scotland, where the sky is pale white and it feels as remote as any place can possibly be, the beautiful and the wealthy gather at a grand old house in the glen. And when the strange local doctor offers him work at the party, Shadow is intrigued.
He knows there is no good reason for him to be there.
So what do they want with him?
A brilliant novella catching up with Shadow! Fab little addition to the 1st book!

Persuasion Enraptured ( The Cascade book 4)
By Rebecca Royce
⭐️⭐️⭐️
t's come down to this...
Kendall sacrificed herself for everyone... but her journey isn't over.
Alive and alone in the Shadow Dimension, Kendall has surrendered hope. But those who love her have not. Rescue is not beyond possibility. Saving Kendall is only the first battle. Can she save the world or is it already too late?
So this series come to its conclusion and I really enjoyed it. It took the whole books for Kendall to realise she needs the team to take on the master but once she got there they got the job done. I wanted to give it a 4 star but I found bits a bit rushed in places and sometimes I got a little bored. But overall it was a decent end to the series.

Merissa (13659 KP) rated River Girl in Books
Dec 17, 2018 (Updated May 31, 2023)
Pauline is taking a river trip in memory of her sister, and to try to figure out what to do with her life. Her guide, Fiona, doesn't show up and so a replacement is assigned to her. Although sparks fly between them, Ellis has problems with his memory and blows hot and cold. The reasons for this are explained, and he gained my sympathy.
There is action, adventure and mystery in this story. The transition from one scene to another is sometimes a bit jolting, and the characters' feelings are very changeable, both to each other and in general circumstances.
A contemporary, a mystery, and a romance all rolled into one.
