"What a fucking record! If you hadn't been introduced to synthesisers via Kraftwerk or Soft Cell, then this was the album that would do it. This was another that became the soundtrack to my teenage life. Knew it inside out and what a relief that boys could finally wear makeup. There's not one dud track on here and the non-singles are best, except 'Love Action', which is pure class. The League are the reason that electronic music has been kept alive."

"Charles Burnett. It’s a really incredible film, shot all in black and white, 1970s, it’s Watts in Los Angeles. And it’s this guy who works in a slaughterhouse. They put it out in theaters, I think a year and a half ago, and I raced out to go see it live. The soundtrack is just so provocative, it’s so of that time. It was shot for less than $10,000…It’s a remarkable, remarkable film, and when you watch it, it’s just so profound."

"Slacker introduced Linklater to us indie-film fans, and Dazed and Confused introduced him to the world. Slacker spawned so many indie filmmakers and established Linklater’s walking-and-talking style, which he continued through the years with other films like Before Trilogy and Waking Life. Dazed is a picture-perfect time capsule with an amazing wall-to-wall soundtrack. It’s for the seventies what American Graffiti was for the sixties and Fast Times at Ridgemont High was for the eighties."

"My parents’ convictions, when it came to discipline, were not very strong. For my bar mitzvah, I gave out a mixtape of ’90s grunge — if you got it now, you would think it was the Singles soundtrack. And the last song on it was “Freedom” by Rage Against the Machine, which has a minute of Zack de la Rocha screaming, “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!” Suspended, instantly. Hebrew day school. They’re all up in your biz."

"I’m a big fan of S. E. Hinton and her handful of early young-adult novels. Rumble Fish is a great adaptation, and I really love the approach that Coppola took with it—he shot it immediately after shooting The Outsiders, and by comparison Rumble Fish is much smaller, bolder, and more esoterically artsy while still being true to the spirit of the book. You get the sense that he really enjoyed making it. Also, the Stewart Copeland soundtrack is great. "
