"I also love the movie Moonstruck. I just think, again, it’s so brilliantly performed. I think Moonstruck and Tootsie are perfect movies. Like, I can’t find a flaw in them, and I’ve watched them countless times. I just think that they are perfect films. And in Moonstruck, what they’re dealing with is death, and loneliness, and loving the wrong person, and a family tie, and infidelity. And yet, it’s the most charming, uplifting, happy movie. I mean, the soundtrack, the score. There’s a makeover in it. I mean, come on, I love a makeover. And again, you have New York, you have Brooklyn, you have this wonderful city. You have this culture of this Italian family. It’s just wonderful. And Nicolas Cage gives the most insane performance I’ve ever seen. When he is screaming about his hand in the bakery, I’m like, “What is that? Who does it that way?” Nobody would do that. Only Nicolas Cage would just scream at the top of his lungs, like, “I lost my hand! I lost my bride!” I marvel at the balls, and that performance just wrecked me. Then her, of course, smacking him — we’ll never forget it."

"There are a lot of parallels between this record and the roots of Underworld’s inspiration. Film music. Taking sounds and songs and melodies from other tunes and fusing them together with other music in a completely different key. And it just has this dusty, beautifully dirty quality – like film noir through a dirty window. I absolutely love it. We took it to Chile with us, Rick and I, and played it in our hotel room and decided it was the best thing we’d heard in years. It inspired us to start writing there and then in our hotel room – music that went on to be part of the download-only records we did. It encouraged us to be a little less produced. It’s an amazing soundtrack for what’s going on around you. There’s a link between these first three records – especially with James Blake – the way that the voice is treated. It was very exciting to hear the voices on the Burial record treated in such an unprecious way. Taking vocals as oscillators, as we’d always seen them, like another synthesiser that’s capable of generating incredible noises. That in itself was inspiring."

"When I was young I became a huge Fellini fan and realised there was just one person doing the music for all his films. Casanova is one of the lesser known Fellini films I'd say. I hadn't seen it until my girlfriend and I watched it about five years ago. It blew me away because it's one of the spookiest; it's a very bizarre film, and the visual and musical landscape are both edgy and weird, as well as sexy. It's one of my favourites now. Nino Rota is perhaps my favourite composer now. I feel like something happened in the 60s with film scores where these classically trained composers were suddenly expanding their palettes to include synths, electric harpsichords and guitars. Nino Rota has really influenced me a lot, he chooses spooky notes and disturbing sounds, although I never knew about the Casanova score until 6 or 7 years ago. My girlfriend started watching the film with Donald Sutherland and we couldn't believe the soundtrack, it was so interesting and moody. It turned out to be my favourite Nino Rota score, even though I hadn't heard it until then."

"Had to at least include one from the master Hitchcock. Being the huge De Palma fan that I am, it would be tough to not be a huge Hitchcock fan as well. Bronwyn loves Ingrid Bergman and was the person to introduce me to Notorious when we were younger. What I love about this film is that you get this sincere, Old Hollywood romantic chemistry between Bergman and Cary Grant, in addition to some classic Hitchcock greatness. We project films while we write and record, and this film played a lot during the making of our debut album. Fritz Lang is another one of the greats who I had to have on this list. I first discovered his films through Giorgio Moroder’s 1984 restoration of Metropolis, whose iconic image of the robot on the soundtrack and posters always intrigued me as a child, and once I eventually saw the film, it quickly became one of my all-time favorites. Most who have seen it, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, and M will agree that Fritz Lang is one of the best to have ever done it, but perhaps no one film has earned him that reputation more than M."
