This story was such a unique combination of different cultures and historical facts.

Elva Cobb Martin wrote a story that combines rich Spanish history, travel on the high seas (PIRATES!), the American indentured, murder, romance and God’s will in our lives. The main characters Ethan and Marisol had interesting backstories that made them stronger. They were a cute couple to get to know, although at first, I was not sure where Elva Cobb Martin was taking them. By then end of the book I genuinely liked the characters and felt happy with the conclusion to the story

A great collection of stories !
There is something for everyone in this collection of immigrant brides, Irish, Cajun, British, Spanish... This was awesome learning some things I didn't know before. Plus I found a couple authors that I had not read before. I would definitely recommend putting this on your summer TBR pile. It is a great read to take you lots of places and times without ever having to leave your front door.

"I saw Pan’s Labyrinth when it played at the New York Film Festival, and it was a euphoric experience. That movie was just the best. I watched it four or five times in the theater. One time I was in Mexico with my family and I was wandering around the streets and saw that it was playing at a theater and I went in. I don’t speak very good Spanish, but the movie worked so well without me knowing what anybody was saying because the visual storytelling is so incredible. We watched it a lot as a reference on We the Animals."

"This is one idea, repeated, done in a simple palette of colour. So many records that I like are like that. I love putting it on in the background. It's like a tumbleweed in slow motion. It's stoic and sad. The rhythm of it is so beautiful. I loved the film when I was younger, too. It reminds me of weekend afternoons when I was a kid watching Westerns on TV, things like High Noon and The Searchers. [laughs] Remember that feeling? And that plangent Spanish guitar… this album feels intimate and epic all at the same time.  "
