Story: Eight Legged Freaks starts by showing us the Mike Parker (Terra) visiting Joshua the spider expert of the town who has been feeding his spiders enlarged crickets and of course they now escape. One week later when Mike goes to return his mother Sheriff Samantha Parker (Wuhrer) stops the visit because of waste being dumped into the local watering hole.
With this we get to see the rebellious teenage daughter Ashley (Johansson) who is dating bad boy biker Bret (Czuchry) step-son of Mayor Wade (Rippy) who is trying to cover up the fact the town is nearly broke. Chris McCormick (Arquette) a local who returned to town after his father’s death refusing to sell the mine in a deal which could save the town.
When Mike makes it back to Joshua’s he learns of the super-sized spiders that have been released into this small town, the resident must now fight against the spiders that have infested the town.
Thoughts on Eight Legged Freaks
Characters/Performance – Chris McCormick returns to his hometown to claim what is his, the mine, he also needs to make up for the mistakes he has made and this gives him the perfect chance too. Sheriff Parker is a single mother of two trying to keep the local community together and being the former love interest of Chris. Mike is the expert on everything going on playing out as the reminder to all the different spiders attacking styles. Ashley is the bad girl daughter of Samantha who is mostly trying to discover who she is. We have the rest of the town which includes the conspiracy crazed radio host, the greedy mayor the comic relief deputy.
Performance wise, David Arquette is great in this leading role managing the comedy side of everything as well as the action horror when needed. Kari Wuhrer fits the part of sexy sheriff very well too. Both Scott Terra and Scarlett Johansson are good choices too. The rest of the actors all give good performances to fit the films mentality.
Story – Small town gets invaded by giant spiders thanks to cost cutting measures. We do have a reluctantly hero needing to help save the day but otherwise this is everything you need in a creature feature, plenty of potential victims, plenty of creature and plenty of laughs.
Action/Comedy/Horror – The action is all big and plans into the idea of the comedy being used in the creature feature side of the film.
Settings – The small town setting helps with the story telling here because they have no communication with the outside world after the attack starts and not many escape routes of places to hide.
Special Effects – We have a mix of practical and CGI here which all help create the low budget feel behind this film and while moments have dated other parts are all fun.
Final Thoughts – This is by far one of my favourite creature features out there, it is fun, over the top and filled with perfect comic timing, never trying to be serious.
Overall: Purely fun creature feature.

This book can be a story on so many levels, I love it. Rosie goes for a wander through the museum. On the surface a basic story, but this can help a youngster get more familiar with a spider and find humour in it's actions. It can be a wonderful way to explore Chicago's Field Museum, the additional information at the end about Spiders serves those who really like tarantulas as well as those just wanting to learn a little more. Beautifully illustrated with rhyming prose this is a book to read, re-read and treasure.

Some people find spiders horrifying, others don't have much problem with them. I belong to the former group, and as such, found much in this book to creep me out. The story follows a large and diverse cast of characters located around the world, as a series of bizarre incidences involving spiders begins to point towards a larger disaster looming around the corner. With the cast featuring everyone from doomsday preppers to an FBI agent to an arachnologist to the President of the United States, it's practically a who's who of monster and disaster movie cliches. But thanks to the brisk pace and effectively gross manner of death, this combination of "Arachnophobia", "Alien" and pretty much any Roland Emmerich blockbuster winds up being very hard to put down. There are a few flaws, like some forced-feeling romance elements, and far too many of the characters being described as very attractive. The complete lack of any resolution presented by the ending is a bit of a disappointment as well, though I am left definitely interested in the next book. I don't know how much the type of person who would happily let a tarantula crawl up their arm will get out of this, but for everyone else, you will likely find yourself checking the corners of your walls for a couple days after finishing.

I first read this as a teenager 17 years later I'm still re reading this series.
Darren Shan is the master of horror in the Ya field.
I have had the pleasure of meeting him numerous times and he is honestly one of the most kindness politest and nicest people I've had the pleasure to meet.
In Cirque Du Freak we meet Darren Shan a young boy who love of spiders gets him in a bit of trouble when he goes to a travelling carnival after that we meets some great mystical and mythological characters one of which being Larten Crepsley the owner of said spider who happens to be a vampire.

Yesterday, I saw the movie based on the series of short story collections that inspired future makers of horror. It affected me so deeply that I decided to skip a Rifftrax screening. The actual film collects multiple horror tropes: haunted house, creepy hallways, reanimated corpses, spiders, supernatural serial killer, books. Most of the stories startle, but never terrify. The creature designs are phenomenal. The ending is kind of a letdown after all the thrills. However, one story completely disturbed me. Not the story or the creature, but the style. It used a lot of anticipation and narrative, but never showed much of the horror. It just built up tension and had one huge scare leading to a horrifying "ending" for one of the characters.

Definitely one to read.
I can honestly say since school I have only read two books, they don't interest me. I am more of a movie guy. This book however I saw on my way to bed and I randomly read the first page. I was hooked.
Amazing story about a young girl who is convinced people from a t.v show is harming her sexually. She is petrified to talk cause spiders have ears, she is at a loss until she meets Torey Hayden an author that writes from her own experiences, she works with all kinds of children. As this mystery novel unfolds it kept me breathless I couldn't believe what I was reading, it was awful but every story has a happy ending, definitely a 10/10!

Well, that was a bit of a strange movie.
A mixture of comedy and adventure, this is set after the 'monsterpocalypse' when the chemicals used to send rockets up to explode an asteroid heading to earth instead resulted in the mutation of cold-blooded animals.
So, giant man-eating frogs.
Giant man-eating ants/earthworms.
Giant spiders.
etc etc.
Think that bit on Perter Jackson's 'King Kong' where they are on the island, and all the giant creepy-crawlies ...
(Although, this, I have to say, is more PG-rated than that particular scene).
With the survivors in separate enclaves around the country, 20-something year old Joel decides to leave his underground bunker and travel across the surface to his girlfriends community just 80 miles away.
The result is an easy enough watch, that never really caught my attention all that much, despite the best efforts of the dog 'Boy'!
