My All American is based on a true story of a college football hopeful turned standout who is faced with a life altering diagnosis that will change the lives of everyone around him forever.

Very strong performance by both Aaron Eckhart and Finn Whitrock (fun fact: this is the first movie that I ever saw that Finn starred in.)

I'm a sucker for a true story, especially when it involves sports. If you are, you should definitely put this film on your list.

"Another revelation to come out of left field just when you thought you knew the pantheon of Japanese cinema. Nakahira’s control of his material is apparent from first shot to last, as he charts the frantic duel between two rock and roll–generation youngsters for the sticky, sweaty affections of Mie Kitahara. Here’s a film that not only reflects the rebellious spirit of Japanese youth in the mid-fifties but also sports an intoxicating visual panache. It also features one of Donald Richie’s most engaging commentaries."

Sports with a hint of romance
This is another sports movie I had no knowledge of going in to and I watch a lot of sports. Tennis is one that I play more then I follow. Sometimes it is fun to watch a tennis match or 2 on tv but not all the time. This match though would have be amazing to see and live through. The story of Billy Jean King is like any other women making history by doing something great in the 70's. It has been told several times using different backgrounds. The big difference with this movie though is they did not overly portray her as the victim being driven down by the man. She always had her head held high and new she could win. You never really felt sad for her during the course of the movie. She had a goal set forth and took it head on.

This movie had a story to tell and like most Based on True Story movies they add way to much drama. This movie was the opposite. It told the story from her perspective and Bobby's perspective and really kept unnecessary drama out of it. The biggest drama points was Billy's female lover. Some of it felt way over the top and you just knew what was coming. I don't mind gay couples in movies, but what I don't like is if it feels forced on to screen just for the sake of adding it. This was part of her story, just put it in there, you don't have to tease the audience that it is going to happen.

The sports part of this movie was my favorite. The back at forth on the court felt real. Which is a good thing because you never want to see look fake. There were very few cuts during the action sequences which means they were really playing tennis, unless they were professionals dressed like them. I would not be disappointed if that was the case, but it would be great if it was the real actors doing it.

All in all this was a fantastic and think everyone, men (from the 70's and earlier) and women should go and see this movie. If you know the story already you may not like it as much but see it anyway.

Kingpin (1996)
Kingpin (1996)
1996 | Comedy
Familiar Farrelly fare to a fault (I swear to God that repetition was unintentional) - it's got every single hallmark of their films all rolled into one: extremely juvenile peepee/caca/sex jokes, USA heartland road trip, lovable doofus + straight man lead pairing plus the underdeveloped woman who puts them at odds with each other, runtime that's about 15 or so minutes too heavy, unpointed misogyny, and heaping helpings of sentimentality. For better or worse, this is the quintessential Farrelly film. On the whole though, it's okay. Comedy is hit or miss here but this can be damn funny, specifically Bill Murray - who easily runs away with this entire film (the film's biggest flaw? that there isn't more of him). Randy Quaid is a riot too, though this is oddly a better sports movie than it is an outright comedy. All these (still fair) gross-out comedy trappings are infused into your model sports film formula but it's oddly really engaging as that, and the comedy is just a bonus. I like how this movie portrays skill, and it's also one of the Farrellys' best looking ones, too. All of this is still rather simple but it's fun.

Hilarious film about a made-up sport, free from all the corporate nonsense associated with the other major sports, and one where less athletic people could play.
From the early days of the sport's creation to the tension starting to tell in the creators (one wants to keep the sport true to its roots, the other wants to capitalise on the commercial success), this hilarious film shows Trey Parker and Matt Stone in real life for once, and is their funniest live action appearances since Cannibal: The Musical.

Georgia works as the PR girl for the up and coming NFL team The Brooklyn Bruisers and it just so happens that her boyfriend from six years ago Leo Trevi has been drafted to the team. Georgia tries to stay professional but neither has gotten over the other in the ensuing years and as much as she tries to stay away from him, it's impossible.

I did enjoy this. I'm not into any kind of sports really and American sports - I have no idea about, so it flies right over my head. The romance was really sweet, though. How Leo is determined to get back the girl he lost so tragically all those years ago. It choked me up a little towards the end when they finally talk about what happened in the past and how it affected them both.

I liked the cast of characters, too. O' Doul - the Captain, Silas - the backup goalie, Becca - Georgia's best friend and Nate - the owner. O' Doul's book is next in the series and I'm intrigued which girl will tame him and I'm pretty sure something is going to happen between Nate and Becca. I think Silas also has his own book in the series, too.

A great Icy ride
Disney yet again comes through with a portrayal of a true sports story that hits our hearts. The cast is a unique blend of serious and comic actors who come together to tell that tale about the 4 Jamaican sprint runners who want to be be in the Olympics so bad they train to become Olympic Bobsledders. Though being ridiculed and bullied throughout the movie they overcome adversity and make it to Lake Placid to show that everyone deserves to represent their country no matter what they are there to compete for.

This author always brings you exceptional characters, a fun and sexy story and of course plenty of hot and steamy scenes. This is a sports romance read, that you won't want to put down till the very last page. I was hooked from the first page till the very last one. This was in no way what I was expecting. The plot followed two people who weren't alike faking a relationship for charity. What starts as a one sided hate fest turns into something more.
I enjoyed the sweet side of the story and the fact that some prejudice the Sarah had seems to disappear the more she realizes not all people are the same. In the beginning I didn't really enjoy the fact she generalized sports players as being dumb.
Overall a sweet read that keeps you smiling throughout.

Thank you for allowing me to read an early copy on NetGalley
