I dunno how I feel. 2.5...3 stars? Either way I liked the start, up until about the half way point, it was bad boy biker/mechanic and young, innocent baker coming together with an instant combustible attraction and I liked it quite a lot, though Jake's growling and controlling ways were annoying after a while.

It was the second half of the story I wasn't so keen on. The sort of rush to their relationship--the engagement--and the stalker. Now I know that we need some sort of dilemma in a story but it didn't work for me in this. And then who it actually turned out to be was a shock. I certainly didn't see it coming.

I liked Kase so I may have to read the second book in this series at some point.

The Killing Kind is a gripping psychological thriller packed full of suspense. I didn’t know who to trust - even the main character, a barrister, is pretty unreliable. It’s hard to put a finger on who the bad guys are: it’s not black and white, but shades of grey. So this is a book that will keep you guessing from start to finish.

It’s always interesting when the character you’re not supposed to like (in this case it’s John Webster, a stalker amongst other things) is more likeable than Ingrid, the main character. And the police don’t seem to be much better.

I really enjoyed this - it’s the second Jane Casey book I’ve read, and I doubt it’ll be the last. If you like psychological thrillers, you’ll love this!

"My favorite Tarkovksy film is Stalker, and it would have been number two on my list if it were part of the Criterion Collection. But Solaris is great, too. Its main characters have no qualities that interest me, and some elements in the film seem purposely absurd. The clumsy pseudo-scientific dialogue, for example, or Kelvin’s ridiculous “futuristic” outfit with its unflattering yellow mesh shirt. And yet somehow I find myself absorbed into the world of these people I don’t want to care about. The images and pacing have a hypnotic effect that causes me to be like, “Oh no, Kelvin feels bad!” even though I don’t like Kelvin. You know that old saying about how a good actor can read the phone book and make it sound interesting? I feel like Tarkovsky could make a compelling film out of the phone book."

The film does refer, albeit in a shallow way, to Tarkovsky and this is perhaps its greatest asset. There are exaggerations. There is not the same poetry as in the Russian master's films, but the drama that unfolds at the same time as we have a science fiction in the background can't help but remember Stalker. The two actors are well in the roles, I think it was necessary to explore a little better Rhoda's relationship with her family. Some resolutions at the end were rushed and kind of gibberish, but the film is far from the American production standard, that in itself makes it much better than most of the garbage that Hollywood throws at the crowd. The final balance is much more positive than negative, and the ending makes you think, it's not something chewy, I like endings like that.

This was the second book in the series. I enjoyed this book more than the first. A couple of characters from the initial book were also in this book and it tied the entire series in as all the books are based at the motel. I was proud of Lillian for just up and leaving. It takes a strong person to do this and someone who just snaps and has enough. I liked the change of pace in this story as it had a dangerous element to it. I guessed who the stalker was as it was obvious but I don't feel this book was written to be an 'edge of your seat thriller'. I also hadn't expected it to be. Lillian definitly grew as the book went on. Even though she was a strong woman to begin with but she became alot stronger. It also had a nice ending.
