4.5/5 stars ~ I AM distracted by bacon!!!! This should be my theme song. Just one of many lines in the book that had me laughing hysterically.

I loved Tony Steele since meeting him in book one of this series. Putting this persona out there when he was really the opposite. Tough, no nonsense, take no prisoners playboy who’s best way to handle anything was throw money at it.

He lusts after Reese and jumps at the opportunity to make her his. Too bad he can’t remember anything about their wedding.

We learn Tony loves Reese and Bacon and that Tequila makes him have short term memory loss. Is there anything money can’t buy? Yes, Reese. Reese is a penny pincher, a saver, an investor. She helps everyone be the best they can be. She makes Tony her next mission. Make him understand he doesn’t have to throw money around to make a difference and be happy.

I enjoyed this book immensely, I knew I would with Tony front and center. This series is 3 books and each could easily be read as a stand-alone but the 1st book does shed some light into the 3rd book. Another gem by Erin Nicholas!!!

After seeing the trailer for this I was very skeptical. I wondered how Hitler during Nazi Germany times could possibly be funny, even in satire. Truth be told, the only reason I got past that stage was because the movie stars Sam Rockwell, and I'm a sucker for him.

I stand corrected on my initial assessment.

Jojo Rabbit is a hilarious take on the life of a child during Nazi reign in Germany. Adolf Hitler is represented as an imaginary friend of a young man who is coming into his own. I know, this seems wicked dark and awful at the same time. But the way that it's approached by the film makers creates an environment that educates and enlightens to the times that were lived by the people of Germany while making it a bit lighter so that it doesn't weigh down all of your emotions to the point of not being able to carry them.

There are some very serious moments and I wouldn't recommend watching with young children (that should be a given if you watched the trailer). However, it is well worth a watch, or even a second. The acting alone is worth a second look.

"I love all the early stuff - the work rate was insane. In the time we took to do two hi hats on Hysteria they'd done an entire album. Mott was when they really got it together. I didn't think the album they did with Bowie - All The Young Dudes - was a great album. It had its moments but you could tell Bowie had put all his efforts into the one song: the rest of it was a little bit thin. Cut to a year later and they're in on their own and they're basically pushed to the deep end - sink or swim. Everybody in the media had said 'what are you going to do without Bowie?!' but Ian stepped up to the plate, he really did. He came up with truly brilliant songs. Stuff like 'Violence' was taken to a completely new place, with Graham Prescott playing violin. He'd worked with Elton John. Then it ends with the most beautifully understated song 'I Wish I Was Your Mother' - the lyric, the title even. It's a really well made record. I remember Mutt used to test speakers with 'All The Way From Memphis'. As did Roy Thomas Baker, as a matter of fact. They proved they could stand alone with this one."

Sand and Mistletoe… two things that ordinarily do not go together but in signature Chautona Havig style they somehow go together perfectly. This book is a stand-alone that does have a Christmas theme; however, I think it can be enjoyed year-round.

From the beginning, I was sucked into Porta and Reece’s story. It was realistic, filled with sarcasm, wit, and self-reflection. I felt like I got to really know the characters and their personalities throughout the book and I got to watch them grow. Which is a big plus in my book. I also enjoyed how Chautona Havig incorporated so much about the deaf culture and how she conveyed ASL conversations seamlessly into the storyline it was interesting to read. Reese’s son Duncan was fun and a great addition to the array of characters in this book. I loved the big family atmosphere and enjoyed the typical family arguments/emotions through the book, as they added a very realistic bent to the book.

Overall, I give this book 4 out of 5 stars for the creative storyline, fun twists, and great characters. Now I am ready to go to the beach for Christmas too! Thanks, Chautona Having

Not thought-provoking or challenging in the slightest, but as always my boy Sharlto Copley saves this from mediocrity (he single-handedly doubled my rating for it). I'll happily stand alone in being glad this went for loud, beastly body horror over the broad, half-finished, overly obvious metaphor that it introduces but refuses to interrogate in favor of conventional genre trappings at the end. But thank LORD this doesn't get preachy about how an innocuous use of technology is the death of society or some bullshit, like these realist-dingy-future films usually tend to do. Super messy (not only can it not decide when to use its gimmick nor what its purpose is, but why even film half this stuff?), hard to find a shot that lasts longer than five seconds and overall it's pretty polluted both visually and audibly for this to make much sense (the editing... hoo boy). That being said, this is totally lovingly grisly and it ends with an extended segment of Copley in an alien mech ripping random government dudes to shreds and chunks of bloody human meat. Also design-wise - as tends to be the case with Blomkamp - it's a knockout... when we can actually see it.
