I'll admit, I checked this book out of the library and let it sit for a few months (I'm terrible, I know), but not for lack of interest, I just didn't have the time to sit down and read. Once I finally got around to it, I had completely forgotten why I had grabbed it up! The cover did not immediately scream "Stephen King" so I was a bit apprehensive starting out, willing myself to push through the first couple of pages.
To my surprise, I needn't have given myself such a talking to, as the book drew me in from first word. The main character has relatable relationships with the people around her, portrayed as the kid we all knew (or were) growing up, the one that just wanted to fit in and was always just on the outskirts. Things change of course, with the help of a special box, and we get a very real glimpse into how humanity deals with great power and responsibility.
My only criticism is that for once, I wasn't satisfied at the end of a King book, wishing there was a bit more, especially concerning the box itself. But then, if we always got all the answers, it wouldn't be a King book, now would it?

Sarah (7800 KP) rated Stephen King's 'Thinner' (1996) in Movies

Stephen King's 'Thinner' (1996)
Stephen King's 'Thinner' (1996)

Very 90s with fairly good effects
I'l start by saying this is one of the few Stephen King novels I haven't read yet, so for once I can't judge it on the book.

As horror/supernatural films go, it isn't bad. It's very 90s, both in clothing and style which is obviously a little dated now. That said, the physical effects are very good even now and back in 1996 I'm sure they were amazing. The story itself is an interesting one, I just don't feel it's very well executed in parts. It drags a little and some of the acting is very cheesy and over the top. Still for a 90s film it isn't bad, I'm just interested to see how it compares to the book.

David Cronenberg tackles Stephen King
After a nearly fatal car crash which send him into a coma for 5 years, former teacher Christopher Walken must try and rebuild his life while dealing with the discovery of his new "power" to see into the someone's future just by touching their hand.

His assists several townspeople before running into power-hungry politician Martin Sheen.

Early film from director David Cronenberg still holds up as a decent thriller. The "visions" are interesting as always people are not what they seem on the surface. Intriguing developments keep you entertained the entire time as you watch to see how things play out.

You are definitely hoping certain characters get what's coming to them.

Ralph is a great character (0 more)
This is one of my favourite Stephen King books. I think because I like the weird ones (The Green Mile is also a favourite) over the more horror-themed ones.

The thing I see from a lot of other reviews is the length of the book. Personally I didn't notice it, but I quite enjoy longer books that really get into the details of the story and the characters. Sure, there's probably a lot of 'filler' that could be cut off this was ever made into a film, but I quite liked the little mundane details, it made the characters more real.

One of the few books that I have read again and again over the years.

Roller-Coaster
Riding The Bullet- is a underrated psychological horror thriller film based off of a stephen king novel.

The Plot: Ever since his father passed away, art student Alan Parker (Jonathan Jackson) has been hypnotized by thoughts of death. After his girlfriend, Jessica (Erika Christensen), breaks up with him, Alan attempts suicide but is rescued by his friends. The next day, he learns that his mother (Barbara Hershey) has just had a serious stroke, and he sets out to hitchhike to her hospital. Along the way, he meets a series of strange people, including sinister George Staub (David Arquette), who may be Satan.

Its psychological, horrorfying, thrilling, chilling, spooky, terrorfying and super underrated.

I would highly reccordmend this movie.

Misery (1990)

Punishment and Toture
Misery- is one of my favorite Stephen King Novel's turned into a movie. James Caan and Kathy Bates are perfect in this movie. Its twisted, horrorfying, suspenseful, mysterious and more.

After a serious car crash, novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), who claims to be his biggest fan. Annie brings him to her remote cabin to recover, where her obsession takes a dark turn when she discovers Sheldon is killing off her favorite character from his novels. As Sheldon devises plans for escape, Annie grows increasingly controlling, even violent, as she forces the author to shape his writing to suit her twisted fantasies.

I would highly reccordmend watching this movie. It is a excellent movie.

Is there anything that can be done to improve the search facility? I've found it seems to struggle finding certain items or doesn't show them first in the list of possible results, despite the fact that the item should probably be the most popular.

Most recent example is the book Christine by Stephen King. It finds the movie with no issue, however searching under books just brings up page after page of authors named Christine rather than the title itself. In the end I had to find it by searching for the author & looking under his list of books.

This has happened a few times with other items, not just books. Anything that could be done to improve or prioritise results would be useful!
