This is, I've read, his fifth film that features them.
I can think of, top-of-my-head, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "E.T the extraterrestial", "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull" and The War of the Worlds".
Of those three, this is probably closest to Close Encounters - indeed, I'd heard it described as a stealth sequel to that movie.
While I'm not too sure about that, I do have to admit it put me in mind somewhat of some of the classic X-Files episodes from the mid to late 1990s: aliens, shadowy government agencies, conspiracies, cover-ups ...
But as the name intimates, this is all about the day(s) leading up to the existence of the ETs becoming known to the world, following - mainly - both a TV weather presenter and a worker who has stolen proof from his employers of the ongoing cover-up.
I found this well worth a watch.

The question of whether or not Andy actually killed his wife and her lover is never answered. I’d held my breath hoping we’d get some form of true closure, but with the events that transpire, any chances of finding out what truly happened is shut down.
The biggest reason that I would prefer to give this film an 8.5 however is the boring stereotypical ending involving Andy escaping, the evil Warden dying, the mean enforcer being enforced, and Red simply joining Andy in dream land working together forever more to live happily ever after. It feels like they just got bored after writing such a long script that they wrote a placeholder then walked away, forgetting to come back later and finish. Disappointing.

Apart from Soderbergh's usual breezy skill as a film-maker, the best reason to see Unsane is Claire Foy's excellent performance, which really carries the whole movie (though she is well-supported by Amy Irving, Juno Temple and others, and there's a great cameo from Matt Damon too). The opening sequence of the film is also impressive in its finely-judged ambiguity. However, the film tips its hand much too soon and quickly becomes monumentally implausible (to the point of absolute absurdity). Worth watching, but you really, really have to cut the film some slack in the plotting department.

When local teenager trailer park handyman Alex Rogan finally beats his favorite video game "Starfighter" he gets more than he bargained for when it's owner comes calling and invites Alex into outer space to help the star league defend itself against its enemies.
It was one of the first movies to use any sort of CGI images as we think of them today. I'm sure nowadays people would say it looked a bit dated, but I would argue the characters and story are what keep it relevant.
There have been many stories and attempts to remake or reboot this film, even from Steven Spielberg, and thus far it hasn't happened.
Keeping my fingers crossed it never does.
