Had I known more about the author, I probably wouldn't have read this book. I didn't like the woman herself, she's part of a very large group of women that have selective memory regarding stories, like her own.
Her story of survival was well-written, but I still don't like her.

"One of my favourite rewatches, a fantastic odyssey. It doesn't let up! I love stories that are just the passage of a group of people through a concentrated period of time and this is a strong dose of that. The gang costumes and the whole look of New York are incredible."

"The author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius is definitely one of the best writers around. No one can put you in a world quite like he can. And in How We Are Hungry, a book of short stories, you have the luxury of having that experience multiple times."

"This is the best book for understanding the early history of society, literature and politics of Northern Europe. Without Saxo’s research and extensive work in compiling ancient texts and oral stories, our knowledge of early Nordic, Germanic, Celtic and English cultures and nation-building would be far poorer than it is."

"Exactly what movies are meant to generate: fantasy, magic, beauty, and unapologetic escapism. The bizarre source material, stories from The Arabian Nights, gives costume designers Oliver Messel, John Armstrong, and Marcel Vertès license to unleash their prodigious imaginations. I collect the work of Vertès, who was also a prolific fashion illustrator."

"Rebecca Solnit goes deep with statistics, personal stories, and others’ accounts of how brutal this world can be for women, the history of how we’ve been treated, and what it will take to change the conversation: MEN. We need them to be as outraged as we are and join our fight."
