A good western
I had heard very good things about this film. Really good westerns seem hard to come by at the best of times. This is a good story, and very character driven take on the genre. As good as it is, it's not a classic I had hoped for. Just a bit more action would have risen it to a great level. Still one of the best offerings in many years though.

A Mixed Bag
This book contains 21 stories by 21 different authors. All of these stories center around Prom. This book was hard for me to review, because of how different each story is. Some of them were truly wonderful, however I think the vast majority of them were forgettable. I personally like character driven stories, and character development just isn't something that you see in a lot of short stories. Overall I don't regret reading this, but I probably won't pick it up again.

Tension builds throughout film
Let down by the ending
This started as a really interesting look at a dysfunctional family dealing with grief, with the story driven by the characters, rather than by the scares. Unfortunately the last 10 minutes completely changes things, by going into WTF territory. It felt like the writers couldn’t come up with an ending to do the rest of the film justice, so decided to “shock” and confuse the audience instead. This was a shame, as the rest of the film was rather good.

Good twist at the end
Fiona Barton's thrillers are always very accessible, it truly feels like you're reading an updated whodunit. The story surrounds various women with lots of secrets, that seem to emerge after the discovery of the remains of a baby at a building site.
Emma, a neurotic writer, her cold mother Jude, the mother of a missing infant Angelica, and of course, journalist Kate Walker take centre stage in this book. Each voice is unique with Kate being driven and ambitious, Emma appearing secretive, and the fragile Angelica breaking down fairly regularly. In this way, you're unlikely to become confused as the characters are distinct.
No doubt, a lot does happen so there is a question of whether Barton may have overdone the story. However, the last twist at the end was less obvious than the others and so the story concluded satisfactorily. An enjoyable read.

I fell in love with The Bear and the Nightingale the second that I started reading it so I was thrilled to receive an advance copy of the second installment in this story.
The story picks up with Vasya driven from her village, orphaned and branded as a witch. She could not face the option of marriage or life in a convent so she decides to become a traveler and explore the world on her own.
Brave and reckless as ever Vasya disguises herself as a boy she travels through Moscow and ends up fighting at the Grand Prince's side as they try to discover the identity of the bandits who have been terrorizing the area.
I enjoyed dynamic between Morozko, Vasya and Solovey. We are also introduced to some new characters and reunited with some old ones as the story progresses.
I found the second installment of The Bear and the Nightingale just as captivating as the first one and am anxiously awaiting the third and final part of the story!
