"Andrzej Wajda’s films had an enormous influence on me as I began writing and directing. I had lunch with him at the National Film Theatre in London, after he had just made Everything for Sale, a film I loved. It was Wajda’s tribute to Zbigniew Cybulski, his friend and the star of Ashes and Diamonds, who died young. In Ashes, Cybulski plays a resistance fighter stranded by a sellout peace. His broodiness and manner seemed to mourn James Dean."

"I just love this movie. Not sure I can explain exactly why, but the overall tone feels right. It must be Zemeckis magic. I love the time it takes—once stranded on the island. So quiet, peaceful and beautiful at times. It doesn’t rush us but allows us to feel the isolation, and both its scary and beautiful qualities. I really get taken away and transported along with Tom Hanks. Oh right, and Tom Hanks is in this movie!"

Decent remake
Didn't have high hopes for this when I originally saw at the theatre, but I was pleasantly surprised. Haven't just rewatched, it holds up as a decent horror thriller with some great make up gore, work with wax (obviously) and some gruesome horror kill scenes.

It's your typical young adults stranded in backwater USA when the ghouls come out to play, but I found it entertaining if you don't think about it too much.

"Sure, it’s uneven. For every Book of Job there’s a Book of Leviticus, featuring some of the most boring prose ever written. But if you were stranded on a desert island, what book would better reward long study? And has there ever been a more beautiful distillation of existential philosophy than the Book of Ecclesiastes? Excluding those bizarre final verses, which seem to have been tacked on long after the book’s original composition, by priests nervous about the subversive message."

Slightly overrated, not worth the Oscar hype
I think this Sci-Fi film was slightly overhyped. The premise of this film is about a man stranded on Mars, who attempts to create human existence on this rocky terrain. On Earth, his fellow colleagues are weighing up whether his life is worth saving. The best part was when Matt Damon's character runs out of ketchup and loses the will to live. It's bittersweet, funny at times, but Oscar worthy? I don't think so.

It cost a fortune to heat this place
A treasury plane carrying a 100 million dollars is attempted to be hijacked in flight ends up dumping 3 cases worth of cash in the mountains in Colorado. The team of Hijackers (lithgow) are stranded and can't even fathom on how to look for the money call for help from mountain rescue played by Stallone and Rooker. It ends of being a race on who gets to the money to either steal or prevention of getting it. Lots of action and I great scary opening that sets the pace for the movie.

From the same director as Black Water about a Alligator menacing a group of stranded people in the outback. We have this survival thriller about a group of friends whose boat is capsized and after some decide to swim encounter a great white shark. Apparently based on true events...
It does feel very similar to both Open water and Adrift but has a bit more action I felt. Definitely not as slowly paced as Open water. Given the subject matter, this is about as good as this type of film can get. It won't be for everyone.

Although I did not see in 3D (probably would've been better), I found this movie entertaining as well as beautiful on my 4K TV.

The story of a boy stranded on a lifeboat with mainly a Bengal tiger is interesting and is a metaphor at the same time. Any story of survival is usually compelling and this one is no different.

The visuals, cinematography and art direction were beautiful

Don't think it deserved a Best Director Academy Award for Ang Lee; however, the choices were pretty weak that year so I guess it is what it is.

This movie uses the fact that it is intended for a younger audience to ignore major plot holes and problems. The teenage characters make some very questionable decisions in the movie, and are rewarded for it in the end. The "bad" kids in the movie don't face any consequences for leaving another teenager injured and stranded in the desert. While the "good"kid steal money from an ATM, but thats apparently okay because the robot dog hacked it. That's just the start of the problems I found in this movie, but maybe a kid would enjoy it.
