And the downward slide of Excelis continues. While this trilogy was meant to be epic, it becomes plodding by the third installment, with tales of zombified meat puppets and totalitarian regimes. It's all been done before, and better. Anthony Stuart Head and Sylvester McCoy are great, but not given much to work with here. For more, visit www.travelingthevortex.com

What a conflux of good and bad this is. First the cast... Anthony Stuart Head is fantastic, and Katy Manning makes Iris a hurricane to deal with. Peter Davison raises his bemused Doctor to the occasion to deal with the two of them. The plot is interesting, and fun to listen to, (mainly due to the characters on display) but while it sets up Excelis to be interesting, it's not a place we really want to return to once this one is done. Set 1000 years after his first visit... Well, there's a problem right there. Just like going back to Narnia so long after the first visit, why do we even care? No one is alive we remember, the world is vastly different, the problems aren't the same... so now it's a whole new set up. Why not just go to a whole new planet? Oh sure, Anthony Stuart Head's warlord is still around in some way shape or form, trying to take over still, but aside from some brilliant performances from him and Colin Baker, there isn't much else here worth carrying on about.
