Daniel Boyd (1066 KP) rated Prey in Video Games

Like if Ken Levine made a Dishonored game
I’m still surprised this game actually made it to release. Developed by Arkane, (the same studio behind the Dishonored games,) and published by Bethesda, this game finally made it onto store shelves after around a decade spent in development hell and while it may not have been worth that 10 year wait, there is a decent game here. The trailers made this out to be a horror game along the lines of Dead Space, but really it’s closer to Bioshock or System Shock 2. If you liked Ken Levine’s games, there is a clear inspiration from them seen here. The game was created using the same engine and art style to Dishonored, so while it’s not the best looking game to come out this year, the art style is still kind of cool. The monster design could have been more varied, but this is still a fun, sci-fi adventure and definitely worth playing through.

This guy ain't clowning around...
Clown is like a classic twilight-zone style curse movie, where a dad puts on an antique clown suit, which turns out to have dire consequences that essentially turn him into a child eating killer clown.
There are some great comedic moments, as you would expect, some gross body horror, gruesome kills and actually pretty good performances.
Despite the b-movie plot, the acting is very solid, and the whole feel is of a well-made, well budgeted horror film, that would not have been out of place on a decent cinema release.
There are plenty of plot holes, bad decisions and parts that drag on a little, but overall this is a pretty entertaining movie, which provides a throwback experience to an 80's style slasher but with modern production values, so what is not to like?

MoMoBookDiary (20 KP) rated The French Kiss in Books

I have enjoyed all the James Patterson’s novels I have read to date.
This was the first of his BookShots that I had bought and when I saw it on audible.co.uk and lasted just over 3 hours I thought it would be perfect for a drive I had ahead of me. However, I was disappointed. The story itself is fast paced and in well-known Patterson style but I found it to be a weaker plot with predictable conclusion. I found the narrator, Jean Brassard, difficult to follow at times as he spoke with (in my opinion) a poor French/American accent. I think I would have preferred to read it rather than listen in this case.
MoMo Book Diary gives the audiobook a 3* rating – as I did not enjoy the narrator and found the book to be lacking in James Patterson’s normal style. This review is also published on my blog momobookdiary.com and Amazon websites.

Twists & turns that are sure to keep you guessing
I was first introduced to Armada West when I read her vampire series war/SONG and I definitely fell in love with her writing style. I was a little hesitant to read this one simply because it was in a different style than the last one. When the Gloves Come Off is a contemporary romance that has basically everything you could want. It has hot sex scenes, decently developed characters, mafia men, shoot outs and a plot that will keep you guessing.
I'm an avid romance reader and I find that many of the books I have read are predictable, this was not one of them. There were twists and turns and many times I wanted to throw my book down because one of the twists came out of left field.
All in all, I enjoyed this book. If you haven't read Armada West, I highly recommend it!

Hazel (1853 KP) rated An Absolutely Remarkable Thing in Books

I read this because I'm a big fan of John Green. I love his writing style and have watched him and Hank on YouTube. I hoped Hank would be as good at writing as his brother. I was not disappointed.
This book, however, is nothing like a John Green story. The characters are in their twenties rather than their teens and the storyline is science fiction. Hank's writing style is also different, however, it is different in a good way. It is captivating, easy to understand and makes you think and feel a whole variety of things.
So, if you like John Green and want to see what Hank can do, you won't be disappointed. Likewise, if you're not John Green fan, you'll still love An Absolutely Remarkably Thing. It's a win-win situation.
The only negative? A cliffhanger. The story ends on a BIG question mark and it is unlikely we will ever find out what happened. I guess it's up to our own imaginations.

BookwormMama14 (18 KP) rated With This Ring?: A Novella Collection of Proposals Gone Awry in Books
Jan 2, 2019
This was a very entertaining collection of stories. I was thoroughly entertained with these proposals gone awry. From Texas 1879, to Kansas 1901, there are enough laughs and gasps to go around.
I love reading novella collections because it gives you a taste of the author's style. The love of reading does have a lot to do with finding a book, genre, author "to spark your fancy". I went several years without reading much because I was trying to force myself to read a style that I just wasn't interested in. Now, I have read more in half a year than I typically read in several years put together. I have read several books by Mary Connealy, but this was my first taste of the other authors. I can honestly say that I am looking forward to reading their full length novels now. Very humorous and sprinkled with faith. This novella collection is the perfect combination of stories for any reader who loves a good western romance.

Good Read
This book was written in poetry. I have been reading more books in this style lately and I really like them. This one follows the story of a family dealing with the aftermath of a break in. The poetry style was a good fit for all of the emotions the characters were displaying.
I also enjoyed the sibling relationships in this book. I thought it was extremely realistic how they were absolutely horrible to each other sometimes, but had each other's backs when it mattered.
I do have one fairly large complaint. The book alternates perspectives, and its not always clear who's point of view you are reading. The only indication is a slight change in font, and I think it would have really benefited the story if they had included the characters name at the top of the section.
Other than that I really enjoyed the story, and would suggest it to anyone looking for a quick read.
