Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: The Justice of Jalxar in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Nice solid story with a lot of fun elements. The Doctor and Romana stop off in Victorian England and meet up with... Jago and Lightfoot, which EVERY Who story could use more of. The characterizations are wonderful and just as you remember, without all the prejudicial and racist overtones of Talons. The story may not be more than just standard adventure fare (alien tech falls to earth, gets misused) but a Judge Dredd style robot exercising justice based on how guilty you feel is a neat idea. Cutesy but boring
Critic review by Tom Huddleston - Timeout

‘The Boss Baby’ is one of those snarky, post ‘Shrek’ cartoons that desperately wants to appeal to parents as well as kids, but its snappy, pop-culture-referencing script feels workshopped to death (there’s a running joke about Gandalf that’s bafflingly unfunny). Undemanding kids might get a kick out of its jazzy, restless visual style and poo jokes, but grown-ups may well find themselves taking some impromptu nap time.

Randy Andrews (3 KP) rated Aliens (1986) in Movies

Great Sequel
Aliens, being the long standing sequel set 57 years later certainly gets the action going right away. Sigourney Weaver plays the character fantastic and James Cameron directs the film in his frenetic style. Love the mechs! The acting for the supporting cast isn't stellar but for science fiction it's workable. Clearly one of my more favorite movies. The score by James Horner was composed quickly but effectively. This gives us one of the best action cues of all time.
Daniel Boyd (1066 KP) rated Inside Limbo Double Pack in Video Games

Eerie pieces of oddly beautiful art
Limbo and Inside are games that I would show to someone whilst trying to prove the point that videogames are a legitimate art form. Sure they aren't pretty games like Journey or Abzu, but they are works of art nonetheless.
If you like shooters and explosive action games, then this might not be for you, but if you are a fan of the horror genre and are willing to try something a bit different, then you should go play through both of these right now.

Death (1 more)
Humour
Princess Keli (1 more)
Too short
A brilliant Discworld Book
This is a brilliant Discworld book written in typical Pratchett style. Death is a fantastic character, always one of my favourites, and this is full of humour relating to him. It's always good when a book can make you laugh out loud.
My only criticisms would be that Princess Keli is a slightly irritating character and the book itself just didn't seem long enough - I wanted more!
Highly recommended for anyone wanting to dip their toes into the Discworld waters.

Hazel (2934 KP) rated A Dark and Twisted Tide (Lacey Flint #4) in Books

I finished this last night and although it was good, particularly the last few chapters, it didn't grab me as much as I would like. I'm really not sure why this was but maybe it's because I have not read any of the other books in the series so I think I will read more from this author as I did like the writing style, the flow of the book and the characters.
I would like to thank the Publicist (Alison Barrow) for sending me the copy after responding to a post on Twitter.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Pages for You in Books

I read this book on a recommendation. It has been talked about with much praise from many people I admire. The idea of finding love, losing self, and finding self is very good and this book covers it well. My issues is the style and format of the book. I like things that flow and it is choppy because it is written in a series of letters it seems. The voice is incredible and I will recommend this book but for me there was no flow just a series of photos with some missing.
"What did I think?" you ask. Well, I can sum that up in 1 word...HILARIOUS! Memoirs aren't typically my thing, but it was impossible not to fall in love with this one. Jen writes with an effortless yet descriptive style. She's not too high brow, but manages to sound like a writer who also happens to be a normal, every day person. The anecdotes she shares are, by turns, hilarious, scary, & heart felt...like any normal person's life.
This book was easy to read & hard to put down.

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated Performance Anomalies in Books
Jan 15, 2018
Well after reading Performance Anomalies I'd have to say that Victor Robert Lee has created an interesting new male lead in the spy genre with his Cono character. Cono is gifted with lighting fast processing skills & reflexes which he uses to help out various international interests. You can't help but feel for Cono & his drifting life style. But I also found myself disliking him too...he seems to flit through life without laws. He is an interesting blend of personalities. I look forward to seeing how Lee decides to expand the character & the series.
Not your normal Dorothy
Good book, good read, women will like this book. Since I did not know, I will not spoil the surprise in it for anyone. This is not your average Dorothy, or Land of Oz. Quite a spin on it, or the underlying truth that is not so pretty to tell. Either way, a good read. Not enough either.
