Awix (3310 KP) rated Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) in Movies
Feb 17, 2018 (Updated Feb 17, 2018)
It's doubtful whether anybody ever wished for a lavish Indiana Jones-style adventure film concerning Sherlock Holmes' youth, but if they had then this would have answered it nicely. Good production values, well-mounted action, ground-breaking use of CGI in some sequences.
The film explicitly acknowledges it's not sticking to the Conan Doyle canon, but still comes closer to the pulpy tone of some of the original stories than many more superficially faithful adaptations, and many very famous actors have been much worse as Sherlock Holmes than Nicholas Rowe is here. Writer Chris Columbus went on to do the first couple of Harry Potter films, which have a very similar tone to this. Rather charming, and very difficult to dislike.

Building Defenses (2 more)
General style
Random game modes
Too many patches (2 more)
Weird gameplay aspects like riding rockets across the map
Still kind of Beta
Fun 100 player survival game
This is a very fun title with a good selection of game types and random ones appearing every other week as special modes.
The game is still kind of in its beta phase as the single player side of the game may only just have been released or still be on the way.
There are other games like this but with the rapid defence building and crazy gameplay this does stand out on its own.
I have not played the single player side of the game but will buy it soon and possibly update this review at that time.

Granddaddy of atomic bug movies works incredibly hard to stay credible as a drama; mostly succeeds. Government agents discover giant mutant ants on the rampage; can they contain the threat and keep the secret until the ants can be destroyed? Not quite documentary-style realism, but close enough; hard edged, takes itself impressively seriously.
Notable for featuring some relatively famous faces early in their careers - also for its use of full-scale ant puppets rather than animation or trick photography. Atom-fear angle is underplayed for the most part; this still stands up well as an SF thriller. The climax, with machine guns and flamethrowers battling snapping mandibles and exoskeletal monsters in the sewers under Los Angeles, was surely an influence on Aliens.

The first 2/3 of the book kept me reading every chance I got in order to figure out what exactly was going on. You only learn things as Emma does, and I liked the style. Once Emma does figure everything out, I thought both the storyline and the writing went downhill. The dialog wasn't great from the beginning, but up until that point the story made up for it. I was very disappointed in the ending, which wouldn't have dropped my rating so much if I felt that it was the right ending, but after watching Emma grow and find her strength throughout the story, I could not believe that she would have acted the way she did at the end of the book.

Asgardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2.5
Marvel attempts to fix some of the flaws in Norse mythology, by including a few more spaceships and the Hulk, and also its own series of Thor films, by basically doing another Guardians of the Galaxy-style knockabout comedy. Obviously the former is less controversial than the latter.
Boisterous entertainment, of course; technically extremely accomplished and often very funny indeed. My only issue was that this was the third Marvel Studios movie in a row to basically be played for laughs, and something with a slightly more adventurous tone would have been welcome. But it manages the trick of actually making one excited about seeing more movies with Thor as the main character, so I guess that counts as mission accomplished.

A Rarity: Even Better Than The First
If you even remotely like the first Deadpool, you're gonna love Deadpool 2.
This time around Ryan Reynolds has delved even deeper into character. The film follows the 4th wall breaking style of it's predecessor and uses it deliver the type of quick-witted humor that audiences would expect.
There are numerous Easter Eggs. I have now seen this film 4 times and still caught things I hadn't noticed prior. I am not a fan of spoilers, so I shall leave those for you to discover on your own. However, I will say do pay attention to yhe opening credits and stay for the additional scenes that run in the middle of the end-credits.

I really wish that I loved this book as much as I loved it in middle school. I guess science fiction/fantasy really is not my favorite type of book. I found that I was bored quite a lot with this book.
I have realized that I struggle with books when they are logical. I like my emotional books. The logical nature of this novel seemed dull to me. I did like the plot line, I just did not enjoy the writing style.
All in all, this book kept me entertained. It is a good mix between science fiction and fantasy, however, it falls too much to the science fiction side that I had a hard time enjoying the novel.

This story in Netflix is a true story account of a woman who was duped into going to a man's farm to work as a tutor for his son but was actually kept there as a slave and abused mentally, physically and sexually. The acting in this was pretty good and the film work was decent. The story was not fast paced but told A LOT in a short time. This was one womans account of what happened to her but the man had done it to many others. It was well told and would be of interest to those who like true crime documentary style movies. Nothing too graphic but the content probably isn't for kids. Worth a watch.

I LOVED this book! My favorite aspects of women's fiction are all here: NYC, fashion, friendship, art, glitz and glamour, food, humor...all combined with a bit of a mystery and a writing style that brings you right in and doesn't let you go. I didn't want this book to end. I was honestly quite surprised at how well written it was, I was expecting fluff considering the author is a former Real Housewife of New York but there were several times this book forced some deep thinking and had me pondering on love vs desire and choices we make. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. Highly recommended! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC
