I got to see the original Rosetta stone the other day. It's truly an amazing artifact that unlocked so much knowledge that might otherwise have been lost.

In that spirit, I'd love to hear from you: What is your favorite book/movie/TV show that has been translated from another language? (Dubbing and subtitles are both acceptable).

Mine are currently One Hundred Years of Solitude and Njáls saga.

Books are altogether another behemoth as most have been translated into other languages. Authors such as Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Jean Paul Sartre, Dostoevsky, Gunther Grass, Han Kang, Rousseau, Christine de Pizan...it's endless ?

Goddess in the Stacks (553 KP) Sep 14, 2017 (Updated Sep 14, 2017)

The Hangman's Daughter series, by Oliver Pötzsch, is one of my favorite translations. Originally published in German, I believe. I read them a few years ago - the first one here: https://goddessinthestacks.wordpress.com/2013/10/21/the-hangmans-daughter-by-oliver-potzsch/
and the next three several months later: https://goddessinthestacks.wordpress.com/2014/01/17/book-review-the-dark-monk-the-beggar-king-and-the-poisoned-pilgrim/

I love this game for so many reasons:

The storyline is pretty engaging.
How they talk to each other in the scenes is crazy--hilarious at times.
Kirzu's attitude and fighting skills.
The fun little side stories.
The strange games included from darts and mah-jong to chatting up girls in the cabaret and online video chat.

Good for series lovers
I have used Netflix for a number of years now and the one thing I've noticed is that they aren't the best for being up to date with the latest movies and releases, especially in the horror field. However, over the years Netflix has excelled in producing their own material and have turned out some very stellar series that have truly been worth the watch. They're also very good for kids programs, with the ability to create a child's profile that limits them ONLY to programs rated for under 12s, which is great for my 5-year-old who can always find her favourite cartoons on her tablet using her profile.

Heartwarming
This take of a tribal chieftain's son who sets out with his father to become a man is very moving. The acting was great(you'll need subtitles to understand what's being said). The imagery and cinematography were amazing. This young boy learns so much more than he bargained for throughout his journey- survival, responsibility, self-esteem and an unlikely friendship. This one is for the whole family. Really worth a watch!
