I had characterised the first Incredibles film as a "boys' Disney film", alongside Cars - something for my son to get a little more out of than he does from Moana etc, but still enough for my daughters to enjoy too - plus a decent amount of action and humour for us parents. Interestingly, it is Violet, the teenage daughter of the family, that takes centre stage for a lot of the sequel, her struggle to find a balance between superhero-dom and normal teenage life teetering on the edge.
In terms of storyline, it really is much of a repeat of the original film - this time it is the mother, ElastiGirl, that is back in action while Mr Incredible is left holding the baby. The plot, and the motive of the villain, is at time a little confusing for kids, and also pretty tenuous - there really isn't any need for major twists in kids' films!
The humour mainly comes from the emergence of baby Jack-Jack's powers - a multitude of abilities appearing with little control over them.
A good film, but a little long and with a slightly failed plot.

So a guy in a wheelchair who breaks a bone if someone breathes on him too hard decides to go around setting epic disaster-sized booby traps and murdering people simply so he can find someone who consistently survives said traps unscathed because that person must be a superhero? Because he decided one day that he must be a supervillain? And the hero's costume is a yellow rain slicker because his kryptonite is water? Look, I'll watch Samuel L do darn near anything, but the entire premise of this movie stretched the bounds of reality. I know that Shyamalan loves twists and turns, but this one went straight off a cliff. Who got Glass to all these places? His elderly mother? What possessed him to go, "I must be evil because why else would I have the uber version of brittle bone disease?" Perhaps if this had been released as a graphic novel-type movie ( a la Sin City), I would have been more accepting of the plot, but it wasn't and I wasn't. Hopefully the third movie will be better...

It doesn't make a lot of sense to make a film about a Spider-Man baddie that doesn't even mention Spider-Man, but then it doesn't strike me as an especially good move to make a superhero movie where the protagonist is a cannibalistic blob with teeth, and Venom manages to be both; welcome to 2018. TV reporter torches his own career, decides to investigate dodgy tycoon, ends up sharing his body with bad-tempered man-eating alien blob with teeth - looking on the bright side he can now shoot tentacles out of his armpits.
Generally a very good reminder of all the reasons why Sony were so wise to hand the actual creative side of the Spider-Man movies back to Marvel, because the script of this movie goes clunk-clunk-clunk from beginning to end; character motivations change in the twinkling of an eye and key plot points are merrily ignored when they become inconvenient. The only reason to watch the movie is Tom Hardy, who finds unexpected reserves of comedy in rather unlikely places. Still a bit of a mess though, certainly compared to the main sequence Marvel films.

The drawing style had changed slightly
Dynamite Entertainment was plugged straight on the spine meaning it is the only volume that doesn't fit in with the rest.
Great Story, shame the quality of the book itself has gone down.
I actually really enjoyed this story and feel it takes a deeper look into the psyche of some of the main characters. It kept me gripped right until the end and left me excited to read the next volume.
What I didn't like (and this may seem a little anal), is that Dynamite Entertainment had taken over the franchise at this point and had to make this statement by not only slapping their name on the front, which is fine. But also slap bang on the spine. This means that when this particular volume is sat nicely between 3 & 6 (which don't seem to have it) it sticks out like a sore thumb.
I also didn't like the fact the paper used was much cheaper than the usual and made it feel much cheaper.

More Than Half Empty
Long-awaited sequel to Unbreakable; also not-quite-so-long-awaited sequel to Split, as M Night Shyamalan's various superheroes and villains assemble in a nuthouse: roll-call includes Bruce Willis (special power: being, um, unbreakable), James McAvoy (special power: one of his multiple personalities is a bit of an animal), and Samuel L Jackson (special power: being older than his own mum - it's true, I checked Wikipedia).
Starts off very promisingly but soon collapses into a saggy and self-indulgent mess in the traditional Shyamalan style; many long-winded scenes and much mysto-babble. Another bravura performance from McAvoy, and Jackson (when he finally turns up) carves himself a thick slice of ham, but the consequence of this is that Bruce Willis mostly vanishes into the background. The climax is remarkably portentous considering it's mostly just two guys wrestling each other fairly clumsily in a car park. Not sure three half-assed plot twists add up to a decent ending. All in all, a curious attempt to make a superhero movie in the style of a horror film, but ultimately rather disappointing given the potential and the talent involved.

Where you're going, every day is Halloween.
Spawn is a 1997 anti-hero film based on the comic book character of the same name. the film stars Michael Jai White in the title role, and is one of the first films to feature an African American actor portraying a major comic book superhero.
Al Simmons is a mercenary who, after accepting a mission is double-crossed and assassinated on the orders of Jason Wynn. After selling his soul to Malebolgia, Al soon returns to Earth as a demon, a hell spawn with a raging thirst for vengeance.
After being reborn, Spawn has little time to understand his new being and must act fast all whist learning new abilities along the way.
Though not as dark as it's comic book counterpart and a little more humorous, Spawn is a nice addition to a pre MCU world, which would have been amazing to see this version of him team up with the likes of Wesley snipes Blade and future hero's like tobey Maguires Spiderman & Nicholas cages Ghost Rider.
Visually entertaining & always a personal favourite.
Love the CGI Cape.

Superhero spy movie?
415. American Assassin. It was pretty brutal, I dug it. Once Michael Keaton enters the scene, I couldn't help but think it was 89' Bruce Wayne training Robin to be the next Batman! Anyways, on the day that Mitch decides to propose to his special lady friend, a terrorist organization decides to strike, opening fire in a crowded resort killing anyone that crosses their path. You may have guessed that Mitch's girl gets killed, Mitch himself is hit several times himself but survives. And now he wants revenge. Starts some intense training and some pretty decent covert ops stuff all by his lonesome, and this gets the attention of the CIA, and gets himself recruited by Sanaa Lathan, she knows a few things about warfare, she did fight side by side with a Predator against some Xenomorphs! She see's something special in Mitch and she sends him to Michael Keaton's character Batman and he trains Mitch to be an unstoppable killing machine. And when an old foe surfaces it's Batman and Robin to the rescue! Pretty action packed, fun to watch Mitch enjoying his new job to the fullest!! Do it!! Filmbufftim on FB!
