Merissa (13329 KP) rated The Old Dragon’s Head in Books

A fantastic escape to historical China, where the supernatural is natural.
THE OLD DRAGON'S HEAD takes you back in time to the Great Wall of China and you become immersed with the main characters and their search for the truth and justice. Supernatural is natural for those with yin-yang eyes, and the Heavens rule over everything, including day-to-day duties. Karma is not an unknown entity, but something to be respected and even feared.
Told mainly from Bolin, Feng, and Luli's perspectives, you get a well-rounded story that deals with treachery, betrayal, and murder. Our heroes are fallible and things definitely don't go their way all the time.
I must say, I agreed with Luli completely at the end, and it came as a surprise as Abbott Dong had been a level-headed character up to that point.
This was very well-written, with a love of ancient China showing through. The story is intricate and in-depth, whilst being easy to read. A fantastic escape and definitely recommended by me.

Thanks to NetGalley for my copy of this book. A great combination of intrigue, mystery and even a touch of the supernatural, this whodunnit is filled with a fair few climactic twists. DI Charlie Moon returns having to work against the grain after his suspension from duty, even hiring the help of a local journalist to solve this gruesome murder. While the conclusion may have ended abruptly, it culminates in the ultimate karmic retribution. Jenny Francis manages to capture both the idyllic countryside and the brutality of injustice in one swoop of her pen. An enjoyable read.

I'm not sure how I stumbled across this film but I am glad I did. It's not very well known but considering the cast includes Jared Padalecki (Sam from Supernatural), Lindy Booth and even Jon Bon Jovi amongst others, as well as being made fairly recently it deserves better publicity! It has a good plot, good acting and a good twist too. It's not that scary to be honest and won't satisfy gore fans but otherwise an all round enjoyable film. Similar to Urban Legend, Scream and another slasher but I won't name it as it'll give the twist away!

Thought provoking and sometimes scary as hell!
I love this podcast. Paranormal investigators, Dave and Tim talk over all topics from ghost to aliens, cryptids and everything in between. Weekly they do a Supernatural News and Parashare episode that is one of the highlights of my podcast feed. Other episodes are very topic driven and guest driven. Make sure you give it at least 3 episodes to decide if you like it or not.

Decent Scandi Thriller
I saw this got recommended when it was shown on TV in 2016. It's a good thriller with a supernatural element to it. Similar in style to the likes of @And Then There Were None - Season 1 as a group of friends at a remote closed ski lodge slowly reduce in number. It was a bit slow to begin with but it picked up. The only real problem it still seemed to leave a few questions unanswered. If you like Scandinavian thrillers set in pretty locations you should enjoy this. A second series, a prequel, starts soon.

One of my favourites
Elena Gilbert loses both her parents and from then on her life becomes entangled in vampires, werewolves and witches. It is one of my favourite shows ever. The Salvatore brothers are gorgeous even for blood sucking vampires.
The storylines are always really good and each season has something different to offer.
The characters throughout are fun and you fall in love with their stories and lives.
If you love vampires and supernatural stories this is definitely worth a watch. As is the originals which is a spin off from the show.

I'm an illusionist, not a psychic.
Going on TV is supposed to advance my career, but things go wrong.
Like vampires and zombies kind of wrong.
My name is Sasha Urban, and this is how I learned what I am.
This was very different to things I've read lately. Yes it has supernatural elements but at first you're not sure what you are getting or where it's going. I really enjoyed reading, it had a freshness to it. The characters are just fascinating right down to Rose and her cat! Highly recommended also great to discover a new author!

The Boys is an absolutely bonkers superhero show in the best way. Showrunner Eric Kripke (Supernatural) successfully adapts Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's best-selling graphic novel into a wonderfully irreverent, gratuitous, and stylized drama that explores the complex nature of not only what it means to be a superhero, but also the profound effect superheroes have on ordinary people. When the show lets its superhero flag fly, the results are impressive, but those moments aren't as frequent as we'd like. Thankfully, The Boys has a myriad of memorable, nuanced characters, that distinguish it from similar offerings within the genre.
