"The first time I read it I was 13 – now I read it about every five years. It’s such a complete world. I love the combination of how real and surreal it is at the same time – and how it spans history and time. It’s poetic. And very sympathetic.”"

Super Dark Times (2017)
2017 | Drama, Thriller
While not an outright genre film, this dramatic thriller takes a realistic approach to its horror. Visually stunning and quiet, this surreal, haunting take on a coming of age story feels authentic

Mind fuck of a TV Show
I really enjoyed this show. It was everything I had wanted from a TV show involving a character as complex as David Haller.
The set pieces were spectacular and the surreal and weirdness of this show kept you questioning everything about what was going on.
Considering the show ran for 8 episodes in the grand scheme of things not a lot actually happened when you take away all the insanity from Haller's mind, but don't let that detract you from this wonderfully crafted show with links to the Marvel world.
Just sit back and enjoy the unimaginable.

"I consume this film the way I imagine foodies consume fine cuisine. I am utterly in awe of how it presents layers of complication while remaining entertaining and super satisfying. It’s a visually stunning and surreal take on an existential conundrum and a sharp reminder that you can’t always get what you want."

"Perhaps the best introduction to another great original of the English novel, who learned from Firbank's economy, but who had his own quite different imaginative world. Loving, set among the servants of an Irish country house, combines his superbly truthful ear for how people really speak with an unforgettable vein of surreal poetry."

"I guess lastly is Baby Doll by Elia Kazan, where Karl Malden plays a sexually inexperienced husband, and his wife plays him for a fool, pretending to be a 12-year-old nymphette. Again it’s a very Southern Gothic, surreal, sexual perversion escapade. It’s another film I’ve watched many times and find it very hilarious."

"This novel, a linked series of strange and acid and darkly comic vignettes on life in Naples at the end of World War II, gets at the material reality of a liberator (the American military) as occupier and at the contradictory and surreal world of Naples. In sum, no one is innocent, not even Malaparte."

I loved how wacky this book was, balancing a mix of horror and surreal fantasy in a way that kept me moving through the pages. Unlike anything I've ever read, with a quad of narrators, deep philosophy, and the stitching together of Science Fiction and Fantasy in a delightfully horrific way.

Hands down LOVED it.

Surreal Horror
This intrigued me after seeing mixed reviews and I guessed that it was going to be something very different to the norm. The problem with films like this is they can be misleading. It starts like a drama, then takes what you think might be in a romantic film direction and then flips it on its head to become something entirely different. I didn't mind that as I had an idea this would have a weird twist. It ends up having several. Not a bad story and the lead characters are good actresses. Maybe the story becomes a bit too surreal by the end that it loses some credibility. If you don't take it seriously you should enjoy it more.
