"A surreal world of characters trapped in a house, the book felt more like a dream than a story. I loved it because it was so different from anything else I ever read. I was never particularly interested in Opera, but this story swept me away."

"I saw this film in college, and I’ve never been the same since. It’s a bit slow in parts, but the imagery is so surreal and magical that I copied the look many times in some of my own films. The art direction is a masterpiece."

Nice visuals...
A very Artistic film from Ryan Gosling stepping behind the camera. The visuals and sound track are great and very cool. Sadly the film as a whole is a little odd and surreal. Bit of a marmite film I think.

"The first time I read it I was 13 – now I read it about every five years. It’s such a complete world. I love the combination of how real and surreal it is at the same time – and how it spans history and time. It’s poetic. And very sympathetic.”"
