Dana (24 KP) rated Asylum (Asylum, #1) in Books

I expected this book to be a lot scarier. Especially with all of the creepy pictures. But unfortunately, it fell flat. The parts that were supposed to be suspenseful didn't always work with the rest of the story. There were a lot of instances of the phrases that are in so many YA books. "I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding" or "She wasn't like other girls" kind of things. Those plot points make reading the novel not as fun for me. I am not saying it was a bad book, but it could have been so much better.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Chatterbox by HouseParty in exchange for my honest review. I was really disappointed in this book. It wasn't really a suspenseful mystery at all and it was really hard to follow. It started off slow - the flashbacks were very confusing, and by time things got interesting at university, everything started going downhill and getting more and more confusing. Too many interwoven stories forced to connect and byt the end it all fell flat. The end was a total cop out. Like she totally gave up. Not a fan. #RHMysteryPack #Sponsored

Suspenseful (1 more)
Action
Classic disaster movie
A 70s classic disaster movie. A strong cast acts out the action based on a best selling novel.. It follows the action both in the plane and out and also adds the right amount of back story and information about the major players that actually makes you care what happens to them, and also helps balances out the suspense and action so you are not overwhelmed, which many modern action films haven't quite got quite right...
I First saw this many years ago and re watching it, unlike some things, I wasn't disappointed.

J Elizabeth Klug (21 KP) rated Animal Circus in Books
Dec 14, 2019
I received a free copy of the book through the Goodreads Giveaways program and voluntarily chose to review.
For the animals of Doe's Circus, life is hard. At the mercy of the ringmaster and his tyrannical gang of showmen, the petting zoo animals long to escape.
Written from the perspective of the animals, the story takes you through how they react to the abuse they suffer, their determination to survive, and their plan to escape.
With superb characterization, the story is well written. It's dark and suspenseful with a surprise ending that left somewhat disappointed and slightly traumatized.
