Midge (525 KP) rated The Secret Life of Mac in Books

Sweet, Funny & Charming
THE SECRET LIFE OF MAC by Melinda Metz appears to be a sequel to the ‘Talk to the Paw’ which was published last year. This quaint little romance story is something slightly unique as it is told from the point of view of a tabby cat called McGyver (Mac), alongside two other characters, Nate and Briony. Mac is on a mission to make the people in his life happy, either romantically, generally or where there are friends involved.
This was an easy, light read so I did not feel disadvantaged in any way not having read ‘Talk to the Paw’ first, though it would have been preferable to me if I had read them in sequence.
This book is a romantic comedy where Mac acted as the matchmaker. As well as being wildly humorous and funny, it is also a tale about personal development and self-discovery. There’s even a mystery linked to the retirement home which added to the interest of this sweet tale.
Most of this story was told from the viewpoint of Briony and Nate. Nate had some personal issues that he needed to deal with, helped along by Briony who had woes of her own. All of the characters had something to offer and the mystery was concluded very well.
All in all, THE SECRET LIFE OF MAC by Melinda Metz was a charming, sweet and worthwhile read.
Thanks to NetGalley, Kensington Books and the author, Melina Metz, for my free ARC of The Secret Life of Mac. My honest review is entirely voluntary.

Lindsay (1793 KP) rated The Christmas Swap in Books
Dec 24, 2020
Looking for a sweet Christmas themed book that deals with a romance. This book has it and a sweet way of how it goes. This deals with a house swap at Christmas time. This book reminds me of the Hallmark Movie called “The Christmas Swap.” I do not know if this was a make on that or if it was maybe inspired by it. I do not know.
The book is about two families but mostly about a songwriter that somehow ends up taking care of this own house. The way it comes about seems kind of cute. We also have Emma who is struggling to be a musician. How will Emma and West's relationship go?
Will Gillian or maybe Harris mess up the sweet romance that is blooming? Does this seem to take a turn when someone figures out who West is? Is the caretaker who he is? Emma seems to be belated with the house they are staying in and the area in Colorado. Will the family and guest learn to ski and enjoy Christmas before going home?
The author writes this book well. This book is Christmas themed and charming. I enjoyed it. The only thing I kinda wish it was a bit more to it. Though I guess, I read too many romances to see how it ends. It is not all that bad. The story is caring and a bit different in the way that the owner is the one in more of a predicament than the heroine.

Great storyline, well balanced between dark and light (1 more)
Sweet love story, for the one you can't have perhaps
The first in the series of Amelia and Joshua, beautifully writted
I picked this up for a flight, and hoped to lose myself between the pages. I hadn't realised it was aimed at 13+ young readers but I loved the storyline, with its darker elements and some lovely light touches. Who knows ... can a ghost fall in love with the living?!

This young adult fantasy is well written, keeps your interest and is full of action. I certainly enjoyed the romance between Rose and Rayce as it was a sweet love. This author is off to a fantastic start and I'm hoping there's a second book!!

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig in Books
Apr 27, 2018
Gwendolyn, The Graceful Pig was adorable. The story was sweet, the pigs made you want them to succeed in their goals, and the Russian ballet teacher was true to the core. The illustrations were priceless! And it had a great conclusion. There was a little bit of humor that made it an enjoyable read for young dancers and parents or ballet teachers. Perfect for ages 3-6 for any young dancer with stars in their eyes
Ruth Frampton (577 KP) rated The Snow Bear in Books
Apr 10, 2018
A sweet little story that sees the two children create a snowbear and then take it with them into the woods to play. Here their imagination takes hold and the adventure begins. What could be frightening for some little ones, this story has a safe ending and would be good for encouraging safe feelings.
My little one found it easy enough to read herself and spent time retelling the story from the images. Always a bonus.

This is the first book in this series by this author. This is a short sweet story which is fun and enjoyable. This is an office romance story, this book can be read in one sitting. The story is fast paced and will suck you in from the start. Fantastic characters with amazing chemistry. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

this book can be read as a standalone or with 'across the distance'. it is a sweet romance which you wont want to put down. I thought it might have been a repetitive story as its the same as the story 'across the distance' but from another characters point of view, but how wrong was I. so much happens in this book, I was totally hooked
