ashezbookz (32 KP) rated The Program (The Program, #1) in Books

While this book had some certain tropes in it (hello love triangle) - and it definitely would have some trigger warnings, a few times I was shocked at what I read, not necessarily in a bad way - but some people may actually have issues with this book if they're super sensitive.
the whole suicide epidemic was quite an interesting story to read (granted that right there should trigger people - hey don't read this book) - the whole lobotomy after getting into the program was intense too - though wickedly fun to read about.
i'm very very curious to see where this series goes.....luckily I checked them all out from the library!

Have you ever thought of everything we don't say and how that effects us? This is what this book seems to address dealing with loss, anger, love, and self doubt. It has a unique voice in Joel and his use of unsent text messeges. The issues this book raises and the discussions that could/should be had are important. Perhaps one day we will all be able to speak even if the words are unpleasent but not hate filled, without trigger warnings.

I wanted to watch this from the trailers, and it was such a good show from start to finish. Warning for very explicit scenes but, you get so lost in these characters that it shouldn't be too much of a bother. Each character was very unique, there was a lot of diversity and it explored sex and everything that comes with that in a respectful way. Some trigger warnings might apply, like abortions, homophobia, and bullying but, they all send a very strong message.

There are multiple trigger warnings for book. Sexual assault of a minor, gun violence, violence against women, white supremacists (racial slurs). This book covers extremely heavy topics but I loved all of it. It is not Ellen Hopkins typical style throughout the whole book I feel how it was done was much needed to put context to this book. There will be characters you relate to, those you hate but in the end it gives multiple perspectives on heavy topics I feel it was covered well.

Oh to be a fly on the wall ...
When Maddox Kane is released from prison, he has no idea what the world has become. His ex-wife’s hooked up with a heroin addict, his daughter’s busy burying dead bodies behind drugstores, and his brother’s being held prisoner by an abusive lot lizard named Jazzy. Plus, apparently, there’s a new drug out on the street called Purple, and it’s going to destroy the world. Or, at least, make you commit unspeakable acts against Zooey Deschanel.
I’m yet to read a book by this author that I don’t like. I think this one was the most “normal” of the ones I’ve read if that’s even possible. It’s certainly a lesson in Don’t do drugs kids! Also this little piggy will never be the same to me 😂 .
Please check trigger warnings as this definitely has them for everything although if you have to have trigger warnings the these books arnt for you.

Charlotte (184 KP) rated Smith's Corner: Layla & Levi (The Heartwood Series #2) in Books
Dec 24, 2021
Holy fluff!
Oh....my....goodness!! This is as hot, if not hotter than the first in the Heartwood series. It follows on from Dallas & Delilah and I'd definitely recommend starting with that one as it sets you up for this.
My heart aches for Layla and I was rooting for her all the way, especially as Levi is so awesome. As with the first book there's a bit of hot loving and lots of emotions. With a deep, dark past waiting to engulf her Layla really struggles to trust and watching her transform is amazing.
Definitely an adult read with adult themes and trigger warnings.
