Big screen adaptation of then-popular BBC TV SF-thriller show looks much more like a horror story than the telly version normally was. Scientist (Bannen) discovers something nasty afflicting the inhabitants of a remote island; can anything be done to help them?

Competently done; resembles the TV show in its tone and concerns much of the time. However, the general tone and subject matter (investigator on remote island discovers conspiracy of silence amongst locals, including disappearing corpses) would almost make you suspect a Wicker Man rip-off, except this was made first (by a matter of months). Not that it matters much these days, but the actual stars of the TV show barely appear in the movie; they may have been busy actually making it at the time the movie was in production. Worth seeing if you're familiar with the TV show, probably a bit too low-octane if you're not.

What’s not to love about thousands of choices that cost less than a cinema ticket (0 more)
Sometimes even with all the choices there’s still nothing to watch (0 more)
Sometimes too much choice
Netflix is great, it’s introduced me to lots of great tv shows (Hells Kitchen USA, Kimmy Schmidt, Shark Tank) it lets me binge Drag Race over and over and over.

BUT Netflix I have one GIANT question why do you introduce me to a show I love and then not give me every season there is? It’s like saying here is a million pounds but you can only spend £1.27

Netflix is great but sometimes too much choice isn’t great, I can’t be the only one who watches the same thing over and over and over again?

Netflix is responsible for creating some truly great drama and comedy but is that ruining tv as we know it?
Is Netflix classed as tv? Should Netflix shows be considered for tv awards?

Truly 21st Century problems ?

Acclaimed ghost story for TV looks slightly dated now but is still likely to put the wind up the unwary. Scientists investigating a haunted house jump to one conclusion too many. Ghostwatch's only serious rival for the title of spookiest thing ever made on videotape, The Stone Tape is notable for the way in which it manages to combine a genuine science-fiction approach with proper supernatural horror: the characters think they've managed to come up with a testable rationale for residual hauntings, but their inability to fully work out how the 'stone tape' operates leads to a climax quite unlike anything else in TV horror. Interesting subtext about gender politics in the workplace, too.

It is nearly fifty years old, made using quite primitive TV technology, quite talky, etc, etc, all of which probably counts against it for modern audiences. But it is interesting to look back to a time when British TV networks made horror for the brain.
