Georgia Thornton is back for a third round on a reality TV show – this time working with her boyfriend Scott to solve a cold case. The castle where this show is set is super spooky, but things get very scary when Georgia finds a dead body in the empty swimming pool. Even weirder, the victim drowned. What’s going on?

Between the reality TV show and the case, there is always something happening, although I did feel the other happenings overwhelmed the main mystery a bit at times. Still, the mystery builds to a logical conclusion. The author does a great job of helping us keep all the characters straight while growing Georgia, Scott, and some of the other series regulars. And the reality TV setting is just lots of fun.

NOTE: I received a copy of this book.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Network (1976) in Movies

Network (1976)
Network (1976)
1976 | Comedy, Drama
Acclaimed satirical comedy-drama; impressively prescient look at American media. Long-serving newscaster is victim of falling ratings, has breakdown and threatens to commit suicide on live TV: network execs are appalled until it transpires this has caused a spike in viewing figures, so they give him a job as a ranting news gimp.

Smartly written and well-performed; slight tendency towards speechifying rather than actual dialogue in the closing stages, but at least the speeches are good. Movie predicts rise of reality TV and collapse in news values with eerie accuracy, also the potential power of rabble-rousing TV demagogues (chief rabble-rouser does not complain about fake news, but it's a near thing). On another level, film is basically just cinema being snotty about how television is a more juvenile and morally bankrupt medium - 1976 was one of the very last years they could do this without it seeming like massive hypocrisy.

An Absolute Must-Have
This has to be one of my most-used apps, one I go to on an almost daily basis. We use it for settling arguments over what else an actor has been in, the names of people we can't quite recognise, who the familiar voice in an animation belongs to, if a TV channel has missed out episodes of a series that is being shown and even the dates when a new series is due to be broadcast. One of my favourite things is that it also tells you the filming locations for TV shows and films. I really is a one-stop app for almost all the information you could possibly want to know about movies and shows. I have it installed on my phone, my Kindle and my tablet, and frequently use the website. I would hate to be without it now!

Great selection of TV and films (1 more)
Can download programmes
Sometimes forgets where you've watched to (0 more)
I have lost count of the amount of series I have binge watched on Netflix now.
I initially was just just going to use the one month free so I would be able to finish watching The Originals but, low and behold, almost two years in I'm still watching.
The selection of TV shows and films are great. They're often things I've meant to watch but haven't had a chance to yet but there they are.
Downloading programmes for on the go is definitely a plus. I like to have a few in my tablet in case I get stuck anywhere or the Internet where I'm staying isn't the greatest.
Only drawback is sometimes Netflix forgets exactly where you were in a programme of you switch between devices (start watching on the tablet and then resume on the TV later). It's such a trivial complaint however that it hasn't put me off.
