David McK (3770 KP) rated Halloween Rain / Bad Bargain / Afterimage in Books
Jan 30, 2019
An omnibus collection of 3 Buffy stories, set at different times during the course of the TV series. Having said that, in all 3 of these stories, Buffy is still at Sunnydale High ...
The first of these has by far the earliest setting, with mention of The Master (the villain in the very first series): I think this was written sometime during series 2. The second novel includes Spike and Drusilla and Jenny Calendar, while the third has mention of The Magic Box but is before that had a larger role in the series.
None of the three stories were that great or were that well written, unfortunatley: I got the distinct impression they were aimed at American teenagers more than anything else!

David McK (3770 KP) rated The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2022) in Movies
Sep 3, 2023 (Updated Sep 3, 2023)
There was 13 novels in the full Bernard Cornwell series of the same name.
5 TV series.
Each adopting roughly 2 novels.
So that meant there was 3 left unadapted when said series was cancelled ('The Flame Bearer', 'Sword of Kings' and 'War Lord'), with Netflix instead developing a movie instead of series to finish off the story.
Which, I have to say, does feel a bit rushed, with some noticeable absences (not even mentioned in passing) and, whilst watching, and with what seems a rushed finale.
I also have to say that Uhtred, here, still looks a lot younger than he was portrayed in the novels (especially by this point) and I don't remember *that* ending happening, either!

A collection of essays written by tie in writers that cover everything you'd want to know about those books based on your favorite movie or TV series. Since I read the occasional tie in, I found this book fascinating.

Midge (525 KP) rated Unforgotten - Series 1 in TV
Jan 3, 2019
Unforgotten is a superb TV show with fantastic plots and wonderful actors. Each weeks' episode leaves you begging for the next one. As the two detectives try to solve a murder from a bygone era it's great to reminisce about the past as well as the present day. I'm ecstatic to hear that there will be a Series 4.

The last novel of author Paul Torday is practically a script for the TV series "Criminal Minds" but with an unusual twist. (What a shame we won't have any more of his books in the future.)
