David McK (3932 KP) rated Red Dwarf: Titan in Books

Oct 11, 2026

Rob Grant and Doug Naylor both created the TV show 'Red Dwarf'.

They then, later (and after penning 'Red Dwarf Omnibus: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers & Better Than Life') split, going their separate ways.

Following this split, Doug Naylor wrote 'Last Human'] (1995, I think), while Rob wrote 'Backwards' (1996).

What do all those have in common?

They're all more-or-less set in the 'current' timeline of Red Dwarf, with Dave Lister the last Human alive, thousands of years in the future and accompanied only by The Cat, a Hologram of his dead bunk-mate Rimmer, and the mechanoid Kryten. (and the ship computer Holly, and - in later series's of the TV show, Lister's ex-crush Kristine Kochanski instead of Rimmer).

This, to the best of my knowledge, is the first story to be set as a prequel, and "one universe to the side".

It also provides an alternative reason for the nuclear melt-down that saw Red Dwarf launched deep into space, with Lister in suspended animation at the time, than has been given before.

I'm also not sure I would describe this as "hilarious": enjoyable enough, yes, but not as funny as some of the earlier works.

Kyera (8 KP) rated Scarlett Epstein Hates It Here in Books

Feb 1, 2018

I would like to preface this by saying I only read a SNEAK PEEK, not the full book.

Scarlet was suggested to me as a cross between Veronica Mars (who I love) and Daria (who I know next to nothing about). Scarlet writes and reads fanfic about her favourite television show, Lycanthrope High. It's one of those books where you connect with the main character because they get you. The tv show, movie, book comic or video game character that you fall in love with feels like a real person - and Scarlet understands that. Her straight-laced best friend, Avery, not so much. It's a unique take on the high school experience with an awkward protagonist you want to know more about. I suggest you check it out.

Everything I Could Hope For

As someone who grew up watching the beloved cartoon, Teen Titans, as well as an avid reader of the comic series, Titans and Teen Titans, a lot was riding against this TV show. However, I was truly surprised by how much I loved this series from the first episode. I've always adored the DC universe for their dark plotlines and backstories they give to the characters. I was thankful to see that they carried this same darkness into this television show. This paired with the talented way they showed the growth of the characters throughout the season was all done beautifully. I could not have possibly asked for more and look forward to the second season!

I like Suzie

A decent binge worthy series, all episodes available at release. Only 8 episodes long and around 35 minutes long each.
It stars Billie Piper as a once winner of a talent show as a child who goes on to do popular TV show. Only now her phone has been hacked and intimate photos are leaked online. This series shows the various emotions she goes through during this and the fall out. A suitable role for her as a star who became very popular on @Doctor Who at an early age. Quite funny most of the time, the chemistry between her and her friend and agent is great. Maybe fizzles out a bit by the last episode but overall a decent watch.
