Kate (493 KP) rated New Kid In Town in Books
Jun 30, 2020
The blurb grabbed my attention but it was a shame the story didn't end when the book did. I wanted to read the full details of how Ray became disabled as we were only teased with a bit of information about it in this book. The books are only available on Amazon and I have a Kobo so am unable to read them. Kobo do not support Amazon books.
The author's writing helped each character have their own personality which helped distinguish each character. Their personalities shone though.
The character's changed slightly throughout the book. This looks to be all down to Ray but also people change as they go through the school year and when new people come into their friendship group.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.
LeftSideCut (3778 KP) rated Friday the 13th (1980) in Movies
Jul 14, 2020
Following hot on the heels of Halloween, Friday the 13th is the slasher genre stripped down to it's bare bones - a group of horny teenagers isolated from the rest of the world, a relentless killer hunting them down one by one, until we're left with a lone final girl.
Tropes that have since become iconic, much like the setting of Camp Crystal Lake.
The summer camp setting has been aped and parodied for years following the films release back in 1980.
The practical effects used by the now legendary Tom Savini are still great. They may be showing their age, but I would take it over sub standard CGI any day. Throw in a frantic and memorable musical score courtesy of Harry Manfredini, a gleefully sinister performance from Betsy Palmer as Pamela Voorhees, and one of the greatest "Gotcha!" endings in horror cinema, and you have a title that's deserving of the love it gets.

Darren Fisher (2447 KP) rated House of Death (1982) in Movies
Mar 21, 2021 (Updated Mar 21, 2021)
But there are some enjoyable moments. One poor girl gets shot with an arrow and runs to safety on a carousel (as you do). The kills at the end are inventive if poorly executed (pun intended), and the opening scene featuring two lovers about to meet their maker is so overblown and ridiculous that it gives the film a surreal atmosphere (shame that dissipates rapidly once the film kicks in).
A sorry state of affairs in all and certainly no classic but... it is worth watching for the first and last reels.
Rumour has it that the original Vipco release has the third and last reels mixed up making it even less coherent than it already is. To be honest, I'd doubt anyone would actually notice unless they were looking out for it...

Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated I Mean What I Say by Viviana in Music
Jul 10, 2019
“You’ll be surprised by how little you really know about yourself today or any day at all. Just leave behind all that mess going on in your brain and for now just enjoy the rain.” – Viviana
‘Rain’ tells a wonderful tale of a young woman who wants to have fun and spend some family time with her sister. Apparently, she wants them to chill and watch old movies of when they were teenagers.
Shortly afterward, she suggests that they go out and play in the rain like they used to do when they were young and carefree.
‘Rain’ contains a relatable storyline and ear-welcoming vocals. Also, the likable tune possesses appealing instrumentation flavored with sentimental elements.
“This song was dedicated to my sister in hopes of reminding her, and everyone who hears it, the simpler and sweeter times of our childhood.” – Viviana
Viviana has been singing and playing instruments such as guitar, piano, and ukulele since she was 10-years-old. This fall, she will be attending Berklee College of Music.
Also, “Rain” is featured on her latest EP, entitled, “I Mean What I Say”.
