Great, but disturbing to watch
This is one of those films that is very difficult to watch, not because it’s an awful film but because it focuses on such a terrible and dark part of history that is truly disturbing to watch. And this isn’t a bad thing. It doesn’t shy away from the subject matter in the slightest, going all out to tell the story which is why it’s both so good and yet so disturbing. The whole atmosphere of the film works brilliantly well to tell this harrowing story.

The cast are all great, notably Will Poulter who I’m hoping will go very far. My only criticisms are that the main part of the film seems notably overlong, and the ending feels like it’s wrapped up a little too quickly. But other than that, this is a very dark and harrowing film that is definitely worth a watch.

I was dragged in from pretty much the first chapter, where they lock eyes after he gets out of the cop car. You could tell that something big had happened. I could tell from pretty early on that Luke had feelings for Avery and it was these scenes that had me so invested in this story. The sex scenes were so... full of emotions, in my view. I pretty much read for the romances and this was so compelling.

I'll admit I was intrigued about the other half of the story, the murder and all that, but I wasn't quite convinced by the why of it in the end. Why would you group together to do something like that and why all young girls? That bit wasn't explained in my opinion.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this--mainly due to Luke--and I look forward to reading more of this series.

"I have learned so much from watching this film; every choice is made to help tell the story. Arnold is such an articulate filmmaker that Fish Tank is an exceptionally expressive work. She isn’t afraid to let her actors and her camera show us every thought and feeling from moment to moment. The film is built and constructed so well that all that’s left is emotion. It’s a modern masterpiece."

I enjoyed this book, really I did, but I felt like this was overhyped a bit. While I understand the whole point was to make the reader realize how precious life is and the importance of just living, instead of fearing death, it all felt too pressured, too forced. The idea itself, however - of a world that can tell you that you're going to die today - was pretty interesting.
