2.25 stars, I think.
I found this story rather boring. It was all inwards, if you know what I mean. She was doing an awful lot of thinking. Mainly that she wasn't good enough for her perfect boyfriend, which got annoying after a while. Then there's her friend Katie, who I actually sympathised with a lot while Lauren just seemed a bit oblivious to her friends issues at times.
Then came Evan and I thought: This is going to get interesting...but nope. Still with her perfect boyfriend, thinking she isn't good enough for him while having secret fantasies about Evan, the boy from her past. It was on such a slow simmer.
I found Lauren a little selfish when she was carrying on with Evan while still going out with Dave, who was safe and perfect, but who she'd rather avoid so she could be with Evan. Why didn't she just tell him it was over?!
It was only with about 20 pages left that she finally gets around to doing just that and by then, I'd just had enough and didn't particularly care what happened in the end.
Not one of my favourite stories and not a paperback I'm likely to keep.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Along Came a Spider (Transplanted Tales, #3) in Books

The main thing I liked about this story was how the characters were rarely how they were portrayed in their particular rhyme or story, for example, Olivia Snow White running an adult business; whod have thought?? Haha :P
Its brilliant and contains almost all of our favourite characters from Al Addin to Juliet Capulet (she gets mentioned, anyway)
Im just sorry I missed the first two books in the series though they arent really necessary to understand this one, and I presume tell the story of two of the other couples mentioned in this one (Red and Nate and Lavender and Seth). I have to admit the author does a good job of making sure you dont miss out on much that happened in the previous books by retelling it from another characters viewpoint, though it isnt quite the same as reading it as it happened, if you know what I mean. It isnt necessary but it is an advantage to read Red and The Better to See You before this one.
That being said, the author has a great style of writing and I was quickly dragged into the story. Its a mix of action, mystery and romance. What more could you ask for?

Tim McGuire (301 KP) rated The Machine (2014) in Movies

Cool Science Fiction Flick
Old Movie Revisited: The Machine. This was a pretty sweet movie! A way to describe it is part: Terminator prequel; Caprica; RoboCop; Species; Blade Runner; Universal Soldier... I think I could name a few more but, I'll stop there. So as you can tell its not an overly original story but was presented well. It's the story of Vincent, played by Toby Stephens(his celebrity mash up would be Michael Fassbender and Damian Lewis) who's a scientist dude, and he creates the world's first self aware cyborg in the form of super hot Ava, played by super hot Caity Lotz(with those eyes she had better play vampire at some point!). Of course the gov't wants The Machine for war, and Vincent wants to save his little dying girl... Who will win, where does that leave Ava and her sexy ass-kicking ways?? You'll have to watch to find out! If you dug any of those movies above I'd say check it out!! It is not an explosive all out destruction of man kind action movie, just a cool robot awakens movie, with a hot blonde kicking soldiers asses, and walking around nude, thank you Caity! Check it out... filmbufftim on FB
