The first in Richmal Compton's classic 1920s comedy series, about a young child who causes chaos wherever he goes, all the time whilst thinking that he is helping.
Yes, it's very much a product of its time - complete with clear distinction between the Upper, Middle and Lower classes and, yes, this particular entry (the very first) is really more a collection of short(ish) stories rather than having an over-arching plot but, for all that - and once you get into the right frame of mind - there is a reason these are enduring stories!
(Oh, and if you want to see the impact William has had on English literature? Try Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch and tell me you don't spot the similarities ...)

I read this while waiting for an appointment for my daughter and I must tell you that the people around my probably thought I had lost my mind as I found myself laughing out loud a couple of times. I loved how smoothly this retelling went, and the author truly took his time in making this a descriptive read which pulls you into the world of The Frog Prince. Readers of all ages will certainly enjoy this story.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Fray (Ruin Saga #3) in Books

[Harry Manners] remains one of my favorite authors. [Fray] is the third installment in [The Ruin Saga] and picked up just where [Brink] left off. As Norman and his crew follow Billy to stop the world from ending completely.
[Manners] really knows how to tell a story as well as weave in and out of the past and present without losing the audience. This is a skill not all authors can say they possess. If you have not experienced any of the books this man has written and like adventure on a cerebral level what are you waiting for?

Villainous Vee (53 KP) rated Alita: Battle Angel (2019) in Movies

Great SFX (2 more)
Nice set up for next film
Great action sequences
Disappointing if no follow up (2 more)
Some dodgy characters
Weak love story line
Overall I really enjoyed this film. You can tell straight away that James Cameron had a massive effect on this film, even Alitas eyes look like something straight from Avatar.
The overall story was great and intriguing and most questions I had were answers, although not all but expect a second film would answer those.
If you can I highly recommend going to see this on the big screen as the visuals are beautiful.

Code Name: Couldn't put it down
Contains spoilers, click to show
Wow, I could not put this book down! Code Name Verity is the story of two girls who become best friends while serving their country in WWII. Without spoiling too much (ok, just a little) you read both of the friends' accounts of the same few weeks. But one you reach part two, you discover that you can't trust everything your read in part one. It's about war and flying, it's about friendship and family, it's about secrets, lies, and truth. Read it, tell all your friends about it, read it again.

I wanted so much more from this.
A lot of people I know loved this movie so I went in with really high expectations and for me I kind of just split this movie in two. On one side the plot was okay but I got pretty bored since it wasn't all that interesting. And then on the other hand you have the visuals which were brilliant they were both bright and vibrant and dark and creepy at the same time and while I can't tell you what most of the plot was I can say there were some amazing visuals.
Dean (6925 KP) rated WALL-E (2008) in Movies
Feb 3, 2018
A brilliant film in so many ways!! It is so simple with barely any dialogue, but it doesn't need it you can tell what is going on by the actions and expressions can say more than a thousands words with a film like this. It's cute, funny and smart and carries a message about the environment. Technically the level of detail in the animation is amazing and set new standards for all animations. There are slight influences from Short circuit in the design of Wall-e and 2001: A Space Odyssey as well later in the film. Do not miss this film!!
Fruit Bat (42 KP) rated Dead Bodies Do Tell Tales - A Jack the Ripper Novel in Books

Amanda Harvey Purse what can I say amazing I loved this book and I'm not just saying that.
The story line jumps between the years 1888 and 1889 the place London your hosts for this intriguing murder mystery are Mary Kelly the fifth Jack the Ripper victim and Thomas Dunn a writer and I'm not telling you any more because you really should read this book. There is so much I could tell but won't all you need to know is that Amanda has mixed alot facts relating to the Jack the Ripper case amongst fiction to create a great story.
