Good folky rock album, something akin to the Beach Boys with brilliant female voices, the harmonies are on a par.

Beach Boys Perfection (or maybe that should read Brian Wilson Perfection)
One of the first cds I bought way back in 1990 (and I still have). Brian Wilson had given up on touring with the Beach Boys and pretty much composed everything on this album. The product and use of unusual instruments (ranging from an electronic Theremin, dogs barking and empty coke cans) make for a very unique album. It certainly has the Beach Boys stamp all over it but this was a massive departure from songs about sun, surfing, cars and girls. Here we had Brian maturing, and sadly beginning to struggle with his mental health, creating a very personal album . Each track is meticulously arranged making it a different listening experience each time (especially through a good set of headphones). There was a lot of in-group fighting as members weren't to keen on Brian new vision. It is often said that Pet Sounds is really a Brian Wilson solo album. Regardless, this is the Beach Boys at the top of their game. Essential listening for sure...

Rolling Stone's 271st greatest album of all time (466th in the 2020 list)
This album marked the Beach Boys' coming of age, moving from fun-loving surfing good-time boys, to more intelligent and meaningful musicians. The music is much more varied, more orchestral, and the harmonies take on a whole new level. The songs are much more serious too in general and a move towards what would become their Pet Sounds mindset. A great listen featuring some of their best songs.

Superb hard rock/blues album. Whether or not they were the first heavy metal band is irrelevant, the songs here are fantastic. Includes the self-titled song, the brilliant NIB and my favourite Sabbath song - Warning - as close to a heavy version of The Beach Boys' God Only Knows as we're likely to see.

"I was about 14, 15 when I first heard this. There was a period just before punk when I was at grammar school. Grammar school being grammar school they tended to like these white rock bands. That was where I got introduced to bands like Yes, Zeppelin, Tangerine Dream, that I also liked. For me, they are my favourite American rock band. Their synergy, the way they play together, and again the engineering of that album, I don't think was ever surpassed. It's got everything. I suppose the Beach Boys might be contenders, but the Doors are my favourites."

"As a very young kid, A Hard Days Night [editor’s note: by the Beatles, in case you’re an idiot] was a big deal. Probably, and when you say “my own money,” keep in mind I grew up very poor, so I didn’t have a lot of my own money; but I probably bought, like, Boston’s first album or the Beach Boys Endless Summer. And after that, when CDs came around, I would just buy The Best of Steely Dan, The Best of BTO, The Best of Deep Purple and I’d really just buy “the best” because a CD was like 13, 14 bucks and I was making six bucks an hour – you do the math."
