Escape Room (2019)
Escape Room (2019)
2019 | Action, Horror, Thriller
A fun thriller, though formulaic.
I've always been enchanted by the idea of escape rooms. Always wanted to do one, just never had the chance. Ironically enough, this movie only enhanced my desire to do one. A very likeable and familiar cast serves their purpose through the twist and turns of a thriller that follows the now formulaic nature of the genre. Everyone gets a mysterious invite, enticed by money, and chaos ensues. Film flies by with a great mix of mystery, suspense, and action. An enjoyable time. Got to try one of these rooms soon.

Seeking to give her life meaning, widowed Mrs. Pollifax applies to be a spy with the CIA. She's sent on a simple currier assignment for Carstairs, but things go wrong and she is kidnapped. Can she use her wits to escape? The story is highly improbable, but I absolutely fell in love. The final third still make me turn pages quickly even though I remember all the twists from the first time it kept me up all night to finish.

I listened to this on Audible, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrator was really engaging, and the story itself was so good! Hester runs away with her sisters and her son, to escape the father of her son claiming him. They hide in a hunting lodge in Wales. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned.
I really enjoyed E C Fremantle’s last book (The Poison Bed) and this didn’t disappoint either. Historical fiction is one of my favourite genres, and this is rich in historical detail, both in the way that people lived and their social attitudes. It’s great stuff!
