I actually listened to this on an audiobook, and although there were one or two pronunciation issues, I thought the narrator Saskia Maarleveld did a really good job. She added extra character to the three main women in the story - all friends, but all so different from one another: the debutante with fluent German; the practical East Londoner who wants to escape poverty; the local village girl who, it turns out, is a genius cryptographer.
I really enjoyed the way that these characters were developed, and how their unlikely friendship grew. The secondary characters were also all interesting and well-developed, and all came together at the climactic end. I was gripped throughout, listening at every opportunity. And the ending really was a breathless race to the finish.
Oh, and there’s a rather large part given to Prince Phillip as well. There is a foot placed in fact, but I’m not really sure just how much. Oslo Kendall did exist, and was Prince Phillips girlfriend (or friend, at the very least) before he married Queen (then Princess) Elizabeth. I liked the “is it true or not” element.
If you like war time fiction, and have an interest in Bletchley Park - or want to find out more - you might just enjoy this as much as I did.

It really is an opposites attract book! You have city vs. country, England vs. France, city slicker vs. lumberjack, and even easy-to-like vs. hard-to-like. Valentin saved this book for me as Dale was a little too contrary for me. He held onto his secret past for reasons, although explained, that still doesn't make 100% sense to me. He was completely self-centred and quick to jump to conclusions. Valentin, however, was a hardworking drifter with a strong work and personal ethic who wanted nothing more than to put down some roots. He managed to do that for a while caring for Dale's dad but that is in question with Dale wanting to sell the place.
The pacing was smooth, the story was sweet, and the bedroom scenes were steamy! The best bit for me was the descriptions of the cottage, plus the storm. It does make me laugh though as everyone in the city wants to 'escape to the country' and those who live there, usually want out.
An enjoyable read and I look forward to more stories in this series. Definitely recommended by me.

Back to Dani and Mac, Dani overreacts a little and jumps through several portals to escape Mac and then we get Mac's POV of what's just happened. She's trying to come to terms with what Dani did all those months ago and trying to figure out how to get Dani to talk to her.
We switch between POV's fairly regularly and get a few new characters to the series. Jada is a sidhe-seer hiding a secret and an Unseelie Princess makes an appearance.
We also get Christian's POV, too. As he's currently being held by the Crimson Hag, it's generally memories of his time growing up in Scotland and trying not to fully fall into the Unseelie Prince side of himself while he waits to be rescued.
That is also one of the main plotlines in this, getting Christian back from the Crimson Hag and they manage it but it takes a lot to get there.
And then we end on a cliff-hanger that has me wanting to go buy the next book right away.
