I am the law!!
Forget the 1995 Sylvester Stallone film; this is how Dredd should be done.
This time around Karl Urban takes on the lead role of the eponymous Judge Dredd - even keeping his helmet on the entire way through - who gets trapped in a high rise building in Mega City One as he is assessing a Rookie with psychic abilities: a building in which Lena Headey's ruthless Ma-Ma is producing a new drug called Slo-Mo and in which she has members of her gang hunting Dredd and his Rookie.

Washington changing direction with style
Brutal, hard-hitting film in which an old hand (Washington) educates a narcotics rookie (Hawke) in the 'realities' of the job.
Tensions begin to mount when it transpires that the realities are considerably more 'real' than the rookie is prepared for, and a whole lot dirtier than he was expecting.
Whenthis film came out I think it was the fist time Washington had taken a part where he wasn't Mr Nice-Guy, which was a nice twist that he carried brilliantly
Ethan Hawke, an actor I've always thought very underused, also delivers a characteristically good performance

A very good, action drama about the life of a firefighter seen in flashbacks. It's quite entertaining, seeing him work his way from rookie to the experienced fireman and how things change over the years. A very fine cast it has to be added and the fire, action scenes are really good. Well worth checking out.
