Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2456 KP) rated Commander Toad and the Space Pirates (Commander Toad) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
It’s been a long space voyage, so long that the crew of the Space Warts is bored. Unfortunately, trouble finds them in the form of Commander Salamander, the notorious space pirate who is Commander Toad’s arch nemesis. He quickly boards the ship and plans to force the crew to play his favorite game, Hop the Plank. Can they get out of this situation?
I remember liking this one as a kid, but as an adult, it just doesn’t hold up well. The puns, a favorite of mine, aren’t on full display here. The twist at the end is just a bit too abrupt for me. I’m sure kids who are fans of these books will still enjoy it, however.

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Beyond the Ice Limit (Gideon Crew, #4; Ice Limit #2) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
I have always been a fan of Douglas Preston and Lincoln child, writing together or individually, and The Ice Limit is one of my favorite stand-alones from the duo.
Gideon Crew, however, is not my favorite of their characters. As street smart as one would expect him to be considering his past, he always seems a bit naive, especially when it comes to women. This isnt a flaw in the writing, just a character trait that I dont particularly care for.
With that said, I was a little apprehensive going into this I wanted to go back to the ice limit to see what would happen, but I wasnt sure I wanted Gideon to come along. I shouldnt have worried though this turned out to be my favorite Gideon Crew novel so far. He had a skill set that made him a logical choice for the mission, and he fit right in with the rest of the highly-specialized crew.
The story really felt like a continuation of the original book, and thats exactly what I was hoping for. It offers an interesting, if not entirely expected, conclusion to the story. If youve read and enjoyed The Ice Limit, you should definitely read this one.

Awesome
I loved this book great story, lots of suspense and thrills, a real page turner, great characters. Couldn't put it down. Based on a small cruise when something strange is seen and the resulting events when the crew and guests are questioned. There's so much more but didn't want to post spoilers.

Another netflix sci fi
This series began well, the opening 2 episodes were ok and steadily set the tone for the rest of the series BUT instead the series just gradually went downhill to the point of ridiculousness.
The Story is divided into two sections.A mysterious alien artifact lands on earth and a crew are sent into space to try to trace its origins while on earth scientists/government officials try to make contact with the artifact.
The earth set story is fine but the story set on the spaceship gets worse as the episodes go on.Everyone at some point is either screaming, shouting, trying to kill someone or trying to get off with one another.
A very bog standard Netflix drama all in all.

Commander Toad and the crew of the Space Warts have been sent to a planet full of spies to retrieve Agent 007 1/2. Their advantage is that this spy is Commander Toad’s cousin. The disadvantage is that he is also a master of disguise. Sure enough, soon after landing they meet several spies who could all be the agent. Can they figure out which one he is?
This is another fun adventures with Commander Toad and his crew. The book is very well done with a plot even the target early readers should be able to follow as they logically solve the problem at hand. Throw in the best puns in the series to date and you have a real winner.
