Fun whodunit?
A fun quirky Whodunit? with a big cast and dash of humour, along with some red herrings. Make this an enjoyable film for those who like a murder mystery.
It was a little light on the humour side overall, so not as much of a comedy as I thought it would be. As for the Whodunit side of things the family members all have their motives but from quite early on there isn't a great deal of mystery in the plot. It finishes strongly thankfully with a typical drawing room summing up.
Overall a fun film for fans of the genre without really testing the grey cells of many sleuth viewers.

1954 | Adventure, Drama, Family
In an attempt to make room for his production work, and to off-set his type-casting as hard nosed dramatic anti-heroes, Douglas took on a lighter supporting role in this adventure film, opposite James Mason as Captain Nemo. Stripy shirted Ned Land was no less macho than we had come to expect of him, but there was a degree of fun hitherto unseen in his career to date. Shot in Technicolor, with the grandeur of Cinemascope, it brought a whole new audience to his work, that may have previously avoided the gritty melodramas he was associated with. Many remember Douglas as the most exciting part of the film, as his insatiable energy dominates the mild style of Mason and eats up the screen.

"Well, I had to have this on it! We’d like to have it on vinyl. Did you watch the documentary about Roky Erickson’s life? There’s this moment when you first come across him in the documentary. He’s sitting in this room that’s filled with junk. He has about ten or more television sets. Some are black and white, some are colour, some have no picture, just zigzags, but they’re all on full. And he’s got radios on full. And he’s sitting in the armchair and says, “This is the only way I can go to sleep! It drowns out the noises in my head.” And you’re thinking those are the noises in your head! [laughs] But he’s playing again! He’s back, it’s incredible."
