The narrative of this book didn’t really have to offer anything. Yes, it discusses important topics, such as bullying, mental illness, loneliness, child abuse etc. But the way it was incorporated just didn’t work for me. The plot kind of plodded along, without any interesting twists or turns, and I didn’t feel any suspense whatsoever. I kept reading in hope of something major to happen, but it never did. 😦
The writing style wasn’t to my liking as well, I feel the book was expanded with the repetitive thoughts about Maggie. The setting of the book felt dark and gloomy, as well as the characters. The chapters have a medium length but Jacob’s parts really dragged to me. The book has some gory details regarding murders, and creepy thoughts of a killer as well. I liked the ending of the book, it did leave me satisfied with the outcome.
So, to conclude, this book was not my cup of tea. I loved the killer, his strangeness and his thoughts, but other than that the characters and the plot felt bleak and boring.

I don't think this is nearly as good as everyone else thinks it is. Now, why do I feel that way? You can hear my full thoughts on Banter For Two.
Here are my initial thoughts. Sure, the performances are absolutely magnificent and I understand why this resonates so deep with everyone. Yet, for the life of me, I can't sympathize with either of our protagonists. I understand that they're flawed, as all humans are. However, I think there is a fine line between acting due to flaws and making irrational decisions that make neither logical nor story based sense. And I love films where we aren't meant to sympathize with our protagonists, but by the end of the film it is clear that Baumbach's intention is for us to genuinely sympathize with Driver and Johansson. You know who I COULD sympathize with? Evey single character in the Meyerowitz Stories! They all had distinct motivations and fleshed out characters, which I feel like Marriage Story does, EXCEPT for the actual decisions they make on screen. I'm aware that they are in a place where it is very difficult to think logically, but if you are thinking illogically, the least I ask of the movie is to write the characters to be consistent.
I know this is more of a rant, but I'll have more coherent thoughts on the podcast. Overall, yeah it was a pretty good movie.

Thoughts on 20 Feet from Stardom
Final Thoughts – This is a nice documentary about the people that add something to the songs you know and love with their backup vocals, there stories of how they learned from the more famous performers while also aspiring to become the big names on their own stage. This is a documentary that shows that talent comes from each position on the stage.
Overall: Good documentary about the lesser known talents.
