Samantha Reece (16 KP) rated Feverborn (Fever, #8) in Books
Nov 14, 2018
Dani/Jada's story made three of these stars happen alone. Her story just tugged so much at my heart, and I need to hear more of this. The other star is for Lor and Jo. I really enjoy their few chapters! Mac and Barrons are becoming very repetitive. I loved them in the first 5 books, but now, I just feel like Mac repeats herself over and over and rambles about the same things over and over. But, overall, I feel this book is about to lead up to something big in the next one! Or maybe it was just that cliffhanger.

Crazy business ideas (2 more)
More dollars than you can imagine
Mind games
Compelling Viewing
Shark Tank takes some of the richest entrepreneurs known and they sit in judgement over peoples business and product ideas.
Joe Bloggs from the street presents his idea in hope a shark will invest.
Some of the biggest products of the time got a big break on Shark Tank.
It is fiercely compelling to watch people sell their passion projects. Once you start you can’t stop. I binged three season on Netflix in a matter of weeks.

Micky Barnard (542 KP) rated Unravel Me (Shatter Me, #2) in Books

My allegiances are conflicted
Another great development from this second part of the trilogy. Juliette had moments of being incredibly flaky in this book, but then I gave myself the proverbial slap around the face and reminded myself that she has had an awful childhood, prolonged captivity and is very mixed up. Adam seemed to be a more back seat character in this book and Warner made everything look triangular. Warner did seem more human and vulnerable and I'm trying to keep an open mind about him. Who knows where it's all going to end in book three. Well narrated.

Charley (64 KP) rated Wyrd Sisters (Discworld, #6; Witches #2) in Books
Jan 27, 2019
Well I have always had a soft spot for Terry Pratchett book and his stories about the discworld transport you to this amazing place.
He has a dark sense of humour that you can see throughout his books.
Wyrd sisters is one of my favourites of his Books. This is the first in a series of his books about three witches. It's funny right from the start and the complexity of his characters always amaze me.
If you like a book with good characters, funny jokes and a touch of magic then this is the books for you.

David McK (3600 KP) rated Thuvia, Maid of Mars (Barsoom, #4) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
The fourth of Edgar Rice Burrough's Barsoom series that began with A Princess of Mars, this is actually the first book in the series that does not centre on the main protaganist of the first three novels (John Carter), as well as being the first story to be told in the third rather than first person.
As a consequence, I actually found this particular one to be a bit of a let-down from the previous, even if it does follow the same plot arc of those earlier stories (right down to yet another mysterious undiscovered race!).

David McK (3600 KP) rated Aliens Omnibus, Vol. 2 in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Collecting the plot arcs of 'Genocide', 'Harvest' and 'Colonial Marines' I'm sorry, but I found this to be a real slog to get through.
Which is a pity, as these stories are (meant to be) a spin-off from still-the-best of the Aliens movie (i.e. the second, the one with an 'S' at the end).
And those aliens themselves - described in the movies as 'the perfect killing machine' - are treated more as cannon fodder than anything else, with these three stories all concentrating on increasingly unlikeable characters in increasing desperate situation.
One for completionists only.

James Koppert (2698 KP) rated Three Things About Elsie in Books
Nov 12, 2019
Good old Elsie
Sometimes a book can be good but the ending makes it very special. This is such. What I love is the the heroes are the ones rarely used but have lived the most. Why there are not more books and characters containing our dear pensioners I'll never know but Three Things About Elsie oozes with the love and charm of the things we adore about our elderly relatives. It is a mystery thriller but more important teaches is to love those we abandon in homes. For that reason this should be read by all.

Andrew Kennedy (199 KP) rated The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) in Movies
Dec 10, 2019
I love the Muppets.
This film is the best of many retellings of Dickens classic ghost tale.
Gonzo is my favourite as Charles Dickens, his narration along with Rizzlo the rat is humorous and fun.
Kermit as Bob Crachit as the lead book keeper is amusing and his team of rats are hilarious.
Michael Caine plays Scrooge who's path of redemption is believable as he is visted by three ghosts who show Scrooge the errors of his ways.
Also, the songs are catchy.
Disney tried other versions but none can top this one. A true Christmas classic to watch every year.

Cori June (3033 KP) rated Emperor of the Eight Islands in Books
Jan 16, 2020
Once I got used to the writing style, (I had to read the first page like three times) the book was really intriguing. There are some incredibly disturbing and disgusting things that happened on the book especially in how the mask was made although it took me a minute to realize what was actually meant. It was a quick read.
It is set in what could be considered medieval Japan. There is mythical creatures, spirits, and mysticism.
I'm not sure if I'll reread it ever again but I'll continue to the next book to see where it goes.

Cori June (3033 KP) rated The Iron Jackal (A Tale of the Ketty Jay) in Books
Jan 10, 2020
Darien Frey may have let his crew into a bit of trouble when going for an ancient relic. Now Frey is cursed and his only hope is his crew: a former slave, a half-mane who battles with her deamon side, a deamonist running from his past, an over cocky pilot, a drunk surgeon, and a fraidy-cat pilot that jumps at shadows. This captain is good at getting into trouble and better at ousting dangerous secrets.
I love the chapters in this book they have a small summery usually with three to four small descriptions and it's not always what you think.
