Seventh big-screen Trek has a kind of contractually-obligatory, cobbled-together feel to it: everyone was expecting them to do something where the old lot met the new lot, so they did, even if it seems like they couldn't come up with much of an actual story to go with it. Various attempts are made to give this story added significance - Data gets his emotion chip, the ship blows up, Worf gets a promotion, recurring characters are killed off - but it all boils down to putting Picard and Kirk together, which happens late on and only quite briefly (that said, the two of them don't exactly have chemistry, so maybe this is for the best). William Shatner is oddly subdued as James T and the writers don't have the best handle on the character, either.

Still, looks nice and Malcolm McDowell is always good fun as a scenery-gobbling bad guy. But it adds to the impression that, as far as Paramount are concerned, the Trek movies in particular are more about maintaining a profitable franchise than actually doing something creatively interesting.

Interesting with working together, but still a high scoring winner

Great filler game for between games or starting the night waiting for people to show up.
not much depth in base game (0 more)
Great Quick Game for more people than most games.
I really like this game, it's a great light game with just enough decisions to be interesting, but it doesn't hold up for multiple plays in a row, each game lasts 15 - 20 minutes depending on the speed of the players. I love this game as a game to play when you start game night and people are still showing up. I also like this one a lot as a game to end the night and peoples brains aren't working as well based on alcohol or just exhuastion. It's also great with newbies and non gamers. The drafting mechanism is easily taught and doesn't take long, usually newbies want to play another one immediately afterwards once they understand what they are doing.

The short games are a huge selling point. Honestly, I'll end up buying this just because it's made by Stonemaier games. Even if it's one of their earlier games before they really found their stride, I still really love who they are and what they've done.

The also have an expansion for it which adds a little, and makes it more fun. I've not bought it yet, but I will.

Milleen (47 KP) rated The Seven Sisters (The Seven Sisters, #1) in Books

Nov 14, 2018 (Updated Nov 14, 2018)
For anyone who is searching for a series of books to keep them entertained into the foreseeable future. 'The Seven Sisters' was released in 2014 and, so far, three others have been published at the rate of one per year, 'The Storm Sister', 'The Shadow Sister' and 'The Pearl Sister'.
Maia D'Aplise and her sisters were all adopted as babies by the elusive billionaire Pa Salt. Now they have all gathered together at their childhood home 'Atlantis:, a mansion on the shores of Lake Geneva, having been told that their adopted father has died and already been buried at sea. Each of the sisters is handed a clue to their true heritage and Maia traces her own path across the world to Brazil. This novel follows her story as she puts together how her own life began. These books have been extremely popular since their release, each of them an adventure with history, mystery and romance thrown in. Something to enjoy now and for a few more years as the series progresses.

Good twist at the end (0 more)
Little boring (0 more)
I did enjoy this book. I like crime novels and was not aware this was paranormal as well but it did all make sense and tie in at the end.
Once I started reading I couldn't out the book down - I read it in a day.
The story flowed well and it was interesting to find out the back ground of each character. I did like the twist at the end when the newspaper cut outs and reports were found. It really tied everything together.
I couldn't connect with the characters but that could be because some of them weren't around long and others I just didn't feel anything for. I didn't care what happened to each character and/or when it happened.
The story reminded me of the Saw films. They were more about a game and torture which I don't like so the book was better.
The book was very well put together.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.
