Bookapotamus (289 KP) rated Death at a Fixer-Upper (A Home Sweet Home Mystery, #1) in Books

The first half of this book was sooooooo slow, it didn't read easily and I had trouble making it through sentences without re-reading them. Too many descriptions, and weird words that no-one would know, odd sayings that were confusing. A lot of unnecessary noise that I had trouble remembering who was who. The second half was MUCH better though! It was a big stretch how everything came together at the end - felt a little forced. I received a copy of DEATH AT A FIXER-UPPER by Sarah T. Hobart as party of a House Party in exchange for my honest review.

For the majority of this book I was clueless as to what had happened and who had done what to who! But that is a good thing! It was only in the last few chapters that everything did finally come together and it was done very well. Loved the back and forth between the 90’s, 2016, 2018, diary entries and emails. Even with all the back and forth, it was easy to follow and did a great job of keeping the story moving while ramping up the tension.
An excellent debut thriller that will have you checking those shadows!

This is a Netflix original "dark comedy" crime drama. The acting was good and the cinematography was too. It's a small town crime story involving a group of people that grew up together and knew each other well. It's told in a backwards style so the events happening are shown in reverse order. The story unfolds quite well and keeps your interest the whole time. It has a few laughs and a pretty good twist to the end that isn't too predictable. I liked this movie overall. Nothing too graphic for kids either. Worth a watch!

Good movie
This movie takes place before the events in the conjuring movies, and it ties everything together really well. It was creepier than the other movies, and will make you jump a lot.
The characters were likable, but they made a lot of bad decisions that make you question whether or not they will make it to the end of the movie.
Overall the movie was really good, but one event in the end didn't make sense. It's something I didn't think about until after the movie, so I don't think most people will notice right away.

Hey all!!
Now I have to say that I did love this book. The characters go through a lot together and the growth that you see through them is great to see as well. The only slight dislike that I had was that the pace of the book was very fast.
I feel that there needed to be a clearer line of when it was the next night. I also feel there needed to be a little bit more filler.
Other than that it was brilliant and I will be reading the next ones!!!

The search for a missing daughter unfolds before our eyes on a computer screen, pulling together clues and information from social media and messaging services. While there have been a couple of decent horror movies recently employing this method of storytelling, none of them have been as effective as this. Edge of seat, intense drama with a few twists and turns towards the end. This may have gripped me a lot more than it normally would, as I have a daughter in her early teens, just starting to build an online life of her own, but wow this movie was amazing!

Loved this series!! How can anyone NOT love Kellan Kyle!? Just the sweetest guy and the love he feels for Kiera is so apparent. I could totally relate to Kiera, I really loved her character and found her to be so much like myself. I loved watching the two of them grow together and was amazed at the level of trust they could find for each other in some of the most difficult situations. I laughing hysterically, loving the banter between the guys on the road, Griffin's mouth ;-) and then, of course, crying at every turn. I CAN'T WAIT to read Kellan's POV!!

Chinese Mysticism
Contains spoilers, click to show
A tale of Chinese mysticism, set in the river city of Tientsin in early 20th Century China, with a mystic, a forensic scientist, a reporter and a spiritually talented investigator getting together to solve a string of incidents that all build to a final conclusion.
Very well acted, with fabulous locations and gorgeously replicated period clothing and props.
A fantastic storyline that starts out as individual incidents that don't necessarily seem to be connected, but that build to a thrilling cliffhanger finale.
Altogether a great watch.

Connie (244 KP) rated Elementary in TV

If House were a detective we might get this much snark.
I personally love Elementary. I get that it is improbable, that there is no way someone can finish mysteries like these with this much interesting discovery. I feel confident that the police forces and detectives are not as slow as Sherlock makes them seem.
And yet, I love the snark. I love the inprobablity of this show, of tiny disparate elements coming together as Sherlock’s eccentric mind flips them about. I love watching Joan find ways to communicate with him. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
