3.5/5: I believe this was an important story to be told. I however did not like a few things about it. The starting at the end and counting backwards in the storyline was a bit difficult to get use to. I also felt as though she tried to write 2 different books and mashed them together, all the intertwining of lives seemed like a second story in the making. I don't like how unfinished the book was left. There were many questions I was left with not life pondering questions just unfinished story line because we wrote too much sub-plot.

Ditto
young couple sam & molly are in the middle of starting their lives together in their new home, when they are attacked one night resulting in Sam's death.
After sam refuses to move on, now having unfinished business, he begins Looking for answers. In need of help, sam meets a spiritualist fraud who terrifyingly (yet hilariously) discovers she has the gift.
This romantic/comedy/thriller manages to perfectly mix the dark and light tones of the movie, with edge of your seat, heart pounding moments.
Starring Patrick swayze, Demi Moore and Woopi Goldberg and Tony Goldwyn.

Weak follow up
5 years after the original film we have a surprise sequel. The first film was OK but hardly a stand out film. This and a 3rd film were shot close together. The plot is rather silly but you expect that. I didn't like the design of the prison this time. Trying to make it look high tech and automated... With a lot of neon lights. It just looks very low budget. A few good fight scenes but little else. A shame when you look at the cast list.

Strong Female Characters (2 more)
Gorgeous Fight Scenes
Overall Clever Script
Smart, Sexy, Action Packed
Although I am a huge fan of hot sexy badass chicks I found the flashback sequences top distracting to truly enjoy the film. I understand the purpose of it, demonstrating a truly brilliant effect of multiple scenes laying over each other meant to deceive, holding true the spy game, they were also distracting as one had to piece together what was happening quickly and by then the scene was over. However the acting was truly brilliant and the scenes were beautiful to behold.

saheffernan (157 KP) rated The Afterlife of Holly Chase in Books
Jan 1, 2020
I don't read Holiday novels especially Christmas I can be somewhat of a Grinch myself during this time. I have to say that Holly chase was the perfect introduction into a Holiday book character that I needed. I loved her snarky comments and commentary during the novel. The play on the classic Christmas Carol made it relatable enough because I knew that story and making the connection between the two during the story was fun to see in what ways it would come together. I think this is a classic book that could hold up to multiple re-reads even.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Big Little Lies - Season 2 in TV
Jul 22, 2019 (Updated Jul 23, 2019)
A very good 2nd series
I breezed through the 2nd series very quickly, again only 7 episodes long. Perry's Mum, the excellent Meryl Streep, turns up and has many questions about her sons death. Will the Monterey 5 be able to keep it together or will many things start to unravel for them? It's maybe not as dramatic as the first series storyline or have as many big reveals. However the writing is just as good and the story is gripping. If you liked the first series you should like this as well.

The game really makes you think before making decisions (1 more)
Able to 'save' the game and return to it
Dark game that makes you think as a team
After a lengthy set up, the game is quick to learn thanks to the rule book explaining each step to the players as you go. As a group, players really need to work together to avoid an early end to the game as one laps of judgement can result in total loss. Would recommend for a night with friends if you have a few hours spare

Eilidh G Clark (177 KP) rated Night Song of the Last Tram - A Glasgow Childhood in Books

Not the best memoir I've read
This is a memoir about the author growing up in a working class family in Glasgow. I read this as part of my dissertation on memoir but was deeply disappointed. The childhood language and the adult language are disjointed, the transitions from the adult self and the child self are awkward and the story (for me) was flat. That's not to say its a terrible book. Some of the memories are sweet, vivid and well put together.

Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated Doctor Sleep (2019) in Movies

Heeerrreee's Russ! What's up Doc? If you've been sleeping on seeing the sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, then you need to wake up. I haven't read Doctor Sleep yet, but did just finish reading The Shining, and I feel like King's and Kubrick's visions were blended together wonderfully in this new movie. The acting shined brightly all around, effects and makeup were great, and set design was amazing! This movie deserves to gain 'steam' at the box office. So much more I'd love to talk about, but I don't want to spoil anything. Speaking of spoiling, does anyone else smell rotting meat?
